Gov. Newsom kicks off homelessness tour in GV (and strums the autoharp)
I was glad to see Gov. Newsom get a music lesson on the autoharp this morning when he visited the Spirit Peer Empowerment Center in Grass Valley to discuss his homelessness program — proposing to spend $1 billion to address the issue. When I was growing up, we were allowed to check out an auto harp in school and take it home for a tryout — a musical perk but also an honor. It’s a fun instrument. Gov. Newsom’s visit to Hospitality House was next. The video is here:

Nevada City Mayor Reinette Senum, a longtime champion for homelessness in our community, summed it up well on her Facebook page: “It was lovely seeing the Governor come to Grass Valley. Hoping it will help in the end. Kudos to the Spirit House and Hospitality House for all of their hard work.”
Supervisor Heidi Hall said on Facebook: “This was an exciting day, with our fully county-funded HOME outreach team highlighted as a model innovative approach to addressing the needs of our community and our homeless. Major props to County manager Phebe Bell and Hospitality House ED, Nancy Baglietto who both represented us fantastically. If you see them, thank them. Proud to have led the charge to engage the County this deeply in solutions. There is much more to be done, and plans in the works.”
