“New Dawn” by artist Miles Toland at Everhart Hotel in downtown Grass Valley

The words “You are not alone. Be a survivor” and “We all get lost inside our minds” circle circle a faceless  figure’s head, which fades into a Pelton water wheel.

“This mural has been a year in the making and had to be approved by the historical commission, development review committee, and the planning commission to meet the many requirements of creating art in this part of downtown.

“The piece is about mental health awareness and supporting those going through depression or having suicidal thoughts.

“Big thanks to @beth.everhart (Everhart Hotel owner) for supporting the project and helping me design the mural, to @missbehaven (of the Grass Valley Downtown Association) for making the application process possible, and to all of the friends who came out to support us at the public hearing!” — Miles Toland’s Facebook page
