Rebane proves why our local right-wing ideologues are a waste of our time

What a hoot! On his blog today, George Rebane went on a rant against “progressives,” somehow trying to blame them for “the Nevada Joint Union High School District (announcing) that it will cut the last Advanced Placement Calculus course from its curriculum due to declining enrollment.”

“Not to be a laggard in the race to the Left, Nevada County progressives today are promoting programs that promise to put us at the bottom of the bottom in the state,” this fool (masquerading as a PhD.) wrote. “It appears that the only community-wide programs and policies we encourage are those designed to attract the poorest, most indigent, homeless, substance abusing, and least educated.”

Gregory Goodknight — a self-proclaimed intellect who comments regularly on Rebane’s blog  — fell for it too, at least initially. “This is a further sign of the hollowing out of NUHS by draining off much of the cream into Ghidotti, but the deprecation of AP Calculus at NU is nothing new.”

Except that Rebane got it wrong. Completely wrong. As The Union reported: “Clarification: The entire AP Calculus program was not cut. While AP Calculus BC was phased out at Nevada Union, AP Calculus AB is still ongoing.”

Goodknight, to his credit, at least acknowledged The Union’s “clarification” later in the day.

Except that it wasn’t a “clarification;” it should have been a “correction.” (The headline read “AP Calculus phased out”). It was a big journalistic screw up.

In fact, AP Calculus AB is still ongoing, and students at Ghidotti High can take calculus courses at Sierra College. Ghidotti also ranks first in a statewide assessment of student performance — an achievement worth celebrating.

Rightwing blogger George Rebane owes “progressives” a big apology. And The Union need to be more careful and call a “correction” a “correction.” Rebane also could help embarrassing himself by getting his news and information from the local students, parents and teachers — not just The Union (where his wife is on the editorial board).

Small towns are a hoot! Podunk with a capital “P.” But we’re making progress. Slowly.

  1. Rebane takes any and every opportunity to bash/blame progressive politics for any/every event that he sees as negative from his point of view. Of course, being a climate denying, teacher/education bashing, extreme right wing ideologue his point of view is skewed somewhere to the right of white nationalist Steve Bannon. While he and his peanut gallery of followers rail about yet relish on how divisive and split America has become their tunnel vision fails to allow them to understand their role as the instigators of that very problem. Rebane’s continuous rumbling and grumbling and blaming does nothing but widen that gap as most of his pronouncements are so extreme as to be offensive to the sensibilities of anyone to the left of Ronald Reagan. No one in their right mind, save the few trolls that harass his bloggers would even want to engage in any kind of rational discussion as it would be a waste of time. As Trump’s problems worsen the rhetoric on his blog gets more angry by the day as they try and lay blame on anyone/everyone but Trump and themselves. It’s all fake news right?

  2. Joe and Annie,
Pruett thinks I am not only one of you but both of you! So much for his legal beagle intuition. Go Valpo! ROFLOL.

    “Barry PruettMarch 9, 2019 at 8:23 AM
I am more convinced that (sic) ever let Annie Fox and Joe Koyote are in fact Jeff Pelline. Far too coincidental the timing of “their” comments. 😂😂”

    1. One of the things that always amazes me about Pruett is that he is willing to throw anything against the wall — you name it — in hopes that it might somehow get traction. He did this in the clerk-recorder campaign against Greg Diaz too. I don’t get it because people are brighter than that (for example, Diaz won in every precinct). “Six horrible legal strategies” is here: https://www.rocketlawyer.com/blog/6-terrible-horrible-no-good-very-bad-legal-strategies-916300 Go Barry go! (It’s Saturday, though; I would have thought you’d give it a rest). Enjoy life!

    2. That’s just too funny!!! Sure says a lot about him and makes me even happier I didn’t vote for him
