Meanwhile -President Donald Trump blamed the fires on forest mismanagement and threatened to withdraw related federal funding.
Climate deniers continue to blame anything and everything for the weather related catastrophes except their own ignorance to the real problem of climate change. Irresponsible and deadly. Generations to come will suffer because of the massive propaganda campaign conducted by the fossil fuel industry for the last several decades disputing real science with ginned up crap from phony think tanks and research. A way needs to be found for them to pay for their crime against humanity. Of course, the idiots who believe them will never admit to their politically induced stupidity as they grasp at straw after straw to avoid confronting the error in their thinking.
The National Interagency Fire Center has recorded the number of fires and acreage affected since 1985. This data show the number of fires trending down slightly, though the acreage burned had increased before leveling off over the last 20 years. The NWS tracks the number of days where conditions are conducive to wildfires when they issue red-flag warnings. It is little changed.
University of Washington Professor of Atmospheric Sciences Cliff Mass pointed out in a recent interview with the Daily Caller: Wildfire area could well be increasing because of previous fire suppression, mismanagement of our forests, and a huge influx of people into the west, lightning fires and providing lots of fuel for them.
University of Alabama-Huntsville’s Distinguished Professor of Atmospheric Science John Christy says human mismanagement is the more important cause of the huge fires: If you don’t let the low-intensity fires burn, that fuel builds up year after year. Now once a fire gets going and it gets going enough, it has so much fuel that we can’t put it out. In that sense, you could say that fires today are more intense, but it’s because of human management practices, not because mother-nature has done something.
What is your evidence that anthropogenic climate change is causing more wildfires?
Human CO2 emission is not the temperature control knob for the climate’s temperature.
Russ, I simply don’t know ho you get your statement that the acreage is trending down from the data here. (Important to note they state not to compare data from before 1983)

California Professional Firefighters President Brian K. Rice:
“The president’s assertion that California’s forest management policies are to blame for catastrophic wildfire is dangerously wrong. Wildfires are sparked and spread not only in forested areas but in populated areas and open fields fueled by parched vegetation, high winds, low humidity and geography. Moreover, nearly 60 percent of California forests are under federal management, and another two-thirds under private control. It is the federal government that has chosen to divert resources away from forest management, not California.
“Natural disasters are not “red” or “blue” – they destroy regardless of party. Right now, families are in mourning, thousands have lost homes, and a quarter-million Americans have been forced to flee. At this desperate time, we would encourage the president to offer support in word and deed, instead of recrimination and blame.”

Record prolonged heat, weather systems getting stuck in place and just baking the West all summer long, on the other side of the country record rain in August and September. As arctic ice gets less and less, the jet stream is looping further north and getting stuck. This fire season should have ended a month ago, this area should have had at least 6 inches of rain, we have had a tenth of that. Record warm ocean temperatures and marine life showing up where it wasn’t before. Veteran CalFire people saying again and again, “we haven’t seen this extreme fire behavior before”.
At this point, talking with climate change deniers, you might as well be talking about LGBT rights to the Westboro Baptist Church or the KKK about human rights. It is a complete waste of time.
Deniers should go spend a night in one of those burned out vehicles in Paradise, one of the vehicles where a body was found, some poor soul that burned alive trying to flee the damn fire.
