Local clerk-recorder candidate’s alma mater, struggling Valparaiso University, is set to close

Out of the blue (and gold), Barry Pruett is lashing out at me this morning in the local blogosphere for posting Cal Berkeley’s #1 ranking for a public school. I’m a proud, successful graduate, happily married for over 25  years and owner of a growing, regional business with a bunch of local advertisers. What’s his problem?

Meanwhile, this morning, the law school where Pruett went (according to his “resume”) — Valparaiso University Law School — will soon cease operation, according to a slew of news reports out of the Midwest.

You’d think Pruett — after losing the clerk-recorder’s race in every precinct to Greg Diaz in 2010 — and now suffering this embarrassment, would crawl under a rock, rather than throw them. Small towns are a hoot! His friends, if he has any, ought to tell him to let it go.

Here’s the news report:

“After nearly 140 years of training attorneys, Valparaiso University Law School will soon cease operation,” as the Northwest Indiana Times is reporting.

“Students, faculty and staff were informed Monday of the VU board of directors’ decision to shutter the doors of the school which has produced thousands of attorneys scattered across the globe.

“The decision to close the school came after a deal fell through earlier this month with Middle Tennessee State University to transition the Valparaiso law school to the Murfreesboro, Tennessee, campus. The Tennessee Higher Education Commission voted against MSTU creating a juris doctor program.

“It has been very painful for everybody,” Heckler said about the decision, calling it a ‘very sad day.’

  1. And it’s eating at the trolls too, who so butt dumb they spell “Jeffrey” as “Jeffry” in their anonymous messages here. Except, of course, for their IP address. LOL.

    1. Thanks Bruce, but I think you’re getting over Pruett’s head with that kind of analysis. His mouth is much bigger than his brain.

      1. Then Todd responds to Pruett: “Todd Juvinall November 2, 2018 at 9:26 AM
I think the American people will do the right thing and reject the democrats.”
        What a hoot!

  2. Pruett once wrote this bizarre letter to the editor in an Indiana paper: “The only way I can fight back is to never vote for a Democrat.” https://www.nwitimes.com/news/opinion/mailbag/the-only-way-i-can-fight-back-is-to-never/article_72d049a2-fcd5-537e-95d7-b384647344e0.html
It shows incredibly myopic and linear thinking; the sign of a true political partisan (or activist). And years later, when you read what Pruett writes in the local blogosphere, it is clear that nothing has changed. Thank goodness he never came close to being our clerk-recorder.

    1. Our community figured out Pruett was a phony from the get go. This letter to the editor of The Union is just one example: https://www.theunion.com/news/be-wary-of-pruetts-claims/ He lost his election in every single precinct of the county, including the one where he lived! Then he decided he was our community’s political pundit, who argues “policy,” sourcing Rasmussen Reports, Fox News, Breitbart, etc. Then he decided he was our community’s legal beagle and expert on arguing “merits,” having won acceptance to Valparaiso Law School, which is set to close. To his credit, Barry finally made “partner” after all these years — to a two-person law firm in a rural town and he is one of the two lawyers. Bravo “partner”! He considers himself “rational” but he wrote a letter to the editor that “the only way I can fight back is to never vote for a Democrat.” There are other “accomplishments”(AKA failures), but we are running out of time. His friend Todd Juvinall is the perfect partner, having achieved a long list of accomplishments himself: He misspelled the name of his blog “Sierra Dragon’s Breathe (sic),” his misspells the former President’s name Obam (sic); he even misspelled the name of “Rogers (sic) and Hammerstein” on his bio; he founded CABPRO, an organization that bitterly divided the community but is now defunct. His idols, according to his bio, are Ann Coulter, Laura Ingram and Rush Limbaugh. The good news is that Barry and Todd are the exceptions to the rest of us in the community, and they are becoming more and more marginalized as the county becomes “blue,” and extreme right-wing activism, hogwash passing as intellectualism, and backwater behavior winds up in the dustbin of western Nevada County history. After all, we are a California Cultural District now!

      1. What a hoot! Pruett yaps about California. But despite all the rhetoric, after growing up in Harvey, Ill., he sang “California Here I Come” at the top of his lungs and never went back. Go figure! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uTWABRKRFM Meanwhile, Pruett was FIRED by the voters of Nevada County at his attempt to become clerk-recorder before he was even hired! A LOSER in EVERY precinct. Ouch! Where’s Dr. Phil to help this poor guy?

  3. I’d be interested to know what readers here thought of Pruett’s campaign for clerk recorder? Only signed names please!

  4. Pruett is back at it AGAIN on Todd’s blog this morning. For a newlywed he sure spends a lot of time on Todd’s blog!

  5. Every once in a while we have to remind our community who Barry Pruett —who once aspired to public office here — really is.

  6. And then there is our own Village Idiot:
“Having traveled to Berkeley twice last year for “dree speech” (sic) rallies I would suggest there is not much to be proud of there regarding the college. It is run by lawless imbeciles and if that is what they are teaching, GOD help America. But Pelline is giving his tacit approval to the Antifa thugees. Sad.

  7. Is this the kind of intellectual capital that Harvey Mudd turns out?
“Jeff Peeline has not posed for a photo for awhile… any sightings? Posted by: Gregory [Goodknight] | 04 November 2018 at 10:15 AM”
I’m sure it must be a statistical error.

    1. Now this is getting creepy: From Rebane’s blog: “Just wondering… Jeff had gone on a diet not long ago, requiring him to drink less wine. How is that going, Jeff? Are you back in the wine saddle a’gin? Posted by: Gregory [Goodknight] | 04 November 2018 at 11:19 AM”Next thing Greg Goodknight will be driving by our house to count the wine bottles in our recycle bin! He might be disappointed. lol.

      1. It’s all these morons have. To them this is “substance” as well as humanity, intelligence and class. In actuality, they are the underbelly of humanity. The lizard brains. The low hanging fruit of society. You know…Trump’s base.

  8. Bruce, Now Gregory Goodknight is calling you a “putz” of “Nirvana Silly.” It’s all he’s got left: name calling. He also fancies himself as being someone who can “take it and dish it out.” I don’t think he “takes it” very well. He never has. He’s been yapping all day, finally resorting to his brilliant “fat jokes.” Not much of an intellect. And Goodknight doesn’t have much of a memory either: Pruett cast the first stone with his immature and hateful response to a perfectly benign post about academics back on October 30. I was just reacting, and Pruett left a hole big enough for a truck to drive through, because his own alma mater had just announced it was closing. Sometimes he should learn to let “sleeping dogs lie.” The clown college on Rebane’s blog will be further marginalized by the “blue wave” this week, and Todd Juvinall has been verbally “hog tied” by TheUnion.com. And Russ doesn’t even live here anymore. Small towns are a hoot!

    1. Wow, I love it, so clever and glib. I guess he showed me. There is his irrefutable argument of substance. Fortunately this coterie (or is it a murder) of mindless homunculi exist in a very closed circle of abject stupidity. Like parasites feeding on each other. The serpent swallowing its own tail. It’s a closed system of self perpetuating slime. They stand in a circle patting each other on the back, then turn around and do it in the other direction. Exhibitionists that no one of matter is interested in looking at. Or as the Delphic Oracle said “They are the fools of the farce.”

      1. Bruce, I think you’re over their heads intellectually. As Pruett would put it: “What a sh** show.”

  9. I think we need to find Gregory Goodnight/Knightbrook? something to do. He’s been launching personal attacks all weekend long, deteriorating into the predictable “fat jokes.” Perhaps he could be a law clerk for “Justice” Pruett, whose own fantasy seems to be his legal intellect. lol. Goodknight writes: ”
“Wow, it does appear Jeffie is counting on the Blue Wave on Tuesday to make everything better… and that mean Barry P started it all. And here I had believed Jeff was Purple through and through… middle of the road! Or so he had tried to argue, time after time. He had voted both Dem and GOP, just couldn’t say who. Or wouldn’t… after all, he had declined to state a party preference just like all good journalists do.”

    1. Pruett started his own “sh** show” (his words, not mine) with his personal attacks in the local blogosphere on October 30, a matter of record. It was an ill-conceived attack, given the failure of his own alma mater.
    2. I am and have been a “middle of the road” voter, who has voted both Dem and GOP. And I have stated who (Heck I even voted for Doug LaMalfa the first time but not this time). I also have been a decline to state voter since I was 18.
    3. But none of this matters to our local extremists such as Greg “anti-global warming” Goodknight and Barry “I will never vote for a democrat” Pruett. These folks are true extremists, totally incapable of finding a middle ground.
    4. We have a lingering problem in our community with a nasty right-wing contingent that tries to hold our community hostage, and holds the community paper hostage, with nasty personal attacks.
But things are changing, starting with TheUnion.com’s verbal “hogtie” of right-wing extremist Todd Juvinall’s rants. Stay tuned for a better future!

    1. Todd did post in the opinion section and urged everyone to follow his lead. I found that to be rather arrogant. Why would I want to follow him?

  10. Todd is such a hypocrite! He whines about “censorship,” but he thought I was posting on his blog, so he deleted the comments.

    1. What a hoot! Pruett, who rails against censorship, is now praising Todd for removing comments from his blog that he somehow thought were mine. (All the comment noted was that Pruett tried to smear Greg Diaz with the “San Francisco values” baloney, but it failed and he lost the election). The two might as well work for Pravda (except Todd can’t spell and Pruett’s “resume” includes a law school that is going to shut down!)
