What a hoot!
The Union published another rambling rightwing rant from one-time Supervisor and local blowhard Todd Juvinall today on the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearings but didn’t bother to correct his own egregious error: Todd referred to Hawaii’s U.S. senator as “Minnie Hirono.” WTF?
Memo to Todd and The Union editors: The Senator’s name is Mazie Hirono, not “Minnie.” Ms. Hirono is the Senate’s only immigrant and its first female Asian-American.
Ms. Hirono’s story is interesting, as she write on her website: “As an immigrant who grew up under difficult circumstances, I recognize that my path to the Senate was unlikely. At the same time, my experiences have shown me the incredible opportunities available in America and have fueled my desire to give back.
“Thanks to my mother’s courage, I was able to take advantage of the educational opportunities available in Hawaii’s public schools. … I went to law school to develop the skills I would need to more effectively advocate for others.”
Meanwhile, Todd wrote about Ms. Hirono in our local paper, stating: “Hawaii’s Senator Minnie Hirono says all you men need to shut up and believe the woman. She is telling the truth and all you men are liars. Wow!”
It is an ignorant remark and a Freudian slip to be sure (for Todd’s benefit, “Freudian slip” refers to “an unintentional error regarded as revealing subconscious feelings”).
And for The Union, more ignorant and sloppy editing. Can you spell “podunk”?
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

“Wenatchee World” His meteoric rise in the world of journalism is exactly what I would expect. He was always a hack. Hackerman.
Also I was heartened to read all the comments to Hackerman’s article. Almost all were thoughtful and insightful. They all recognized that Hackerman is a shallow uninspired fool. They don’t like him up there. I wonder why.
Thank you so much. I too was so appalled by his comments in the paper today! He demonstrates the worst kind of smearing.
Now The Union is running recycled commentary from Rebane’s KVMR commentary and his blog on its Op-Ed page — word for word. It still reads like the same drivel the third time around. lol. Imagine George’s hubris it takes to believe his ridiculous ‘put evidence in escrow to prove its worth’ stunt is more credible than the processes used by Robert Mueller.
Robert Mueller: experienced law enforcement and justice official who has been the United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts, United States Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division, United States Attorney for the Northern District of California, United States Deputy Attorney General, and the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation for 11 years.
Let’s review the results: Robert Mueller’s investigation has resulted in just over a year in 34 criminal indictments, 8 of which have resulted in guilty pleas and sentences or cooperating agreements so far.
Case closed.
Well said. And “Who is George Rebane?”Mueller is asking this morning. “Wasn’t he the curmudgeonly 78-year old balloon salesman in that movie ‘Up,’ who tied thousands of balloons to his house to fly away?” Then the investigator paused and added: “Oh I guess not; his name was Carl. He sure acts similarly though.” ROFLOL!
The Union’s website now reads: “UPDATE: This story has been updated to correct the name of Hawaii Senator Mazie Hirono.” Good going!
It is very disappointing that the Union continues to allow our newspaper to become a sewer.
