Devastating defeat for GOP

“The Senate has dealt a devastating setback to Republican efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare, defeating a GOP ‘skinny repeal’ bill early Friday morning,” as CNN reported.

“Sens. John McCain, Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins joined with Democrats to oppose the measure, a major blow to President Donald Trump and the Republican congressional agenda.

“McCain, who had voted for a motion to proceed to the bill Tuesday after returning to Washington following surgery for a brain tumor, held out all day, including in a news conference where he criticized the partisan process that led to the after-midnight vote.

Speaking after the vote, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell looked stunned and lamented the vote and the inability of the GOP to fulfill its long-term campaign pledge.

“‘This is clearly a disappointing moment,’ McConnell said. ‘Our constituents have suffered through an awful lot under Obamacare. We thought they deserved better. It’s why I and many of my colleagues did as we promised and voted to repeal this failed law. We told our constituents we would vote that way. And when the moment came, when the moment came, most of us did.'”

  1. Lower the bar? I wondered how the GOP would slice and dice their failed attempt after 7 years of whining. The CBO says 23 million would lose coverage over their first attempt, so to make it OK their “skinny” bill would only kick 16 million off health care. The CBO also estimated that premiums in the individual market would increase by 20 percent compared to current law in all years between 2018 and 2026. So 16 million instead of 23 million, it will cost the people more, and they will be allowed to sell “junk policies” again ala Ted Cruz—- – why— it’s a win win in these traitors minds.

  2. The GOP failed once again to repeal the ACA because, uh…..uh… Hillary Clinton. If not for Hillary they would have no one to blame for their own incompetence except each other, which is growing in popularity. These people have no moral compass and do not represent the American people only their high end donors. Their health care bill would have even screwed over their voter base but even that doesn’t matter. McConnell, Ryan, and Co. don’t care and their supporters don’t seem to have enough gray matter to understand that they are just the pawns of the rich to be manipulated as needed. All that matters is the twisted ideology of the wealthy that trumps all else (pun intended). The GOP is just a bunch of mindless lackeys whose primary concern is wealth and power not the American people.

  3. McCain finally got even for that really low nasty crack about avoiding capture by Drumpski. I also hope that he has a new outlook on healthcare, having damn near died this week. In general, Republicans want more bombs, less healthcare, and that really sucks. Hope Drumpsticker dies of one of the diseases he just cut from the budget, Wouldn’t that be a hoot!?! Over a billion in research dollars transferred instead to the military industrial complex/private cops for overseas oil (and hotel) properties.
