The Union’s paid weekly columnist George Boardman wrote this in one of his recent columns: “WHY DID it take an assemblyman from San Mateo County to secure funding for solar power at Malakoff Diggins? Where were Assemblyman Brian Dahle or state Senator Ted Gaines?”
In a letter to The Union, SYRCL’s executive director Caleb Dardick wrote: “The Union’s columnist George Boardman got it wrong. For the record, Assembly member Brian Dahle worked hard to get solar power for Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park. In fact, a quick archival search shows Dahle on the front page of The Union under the headline ‘Rescuing Malakoff’ (Oct. 13, 2013). ”
Then instead of apologizing, Boardman digs in his heels and makes a personal dig: “I get it. Dardick’s job is to secure private grants and public funds to keep SYRCL relevant and his pay check coming, so he has to play nice with every elected official who could conceivably do him some good. Even those who do little if anything to help.
“ANOTHER THOUGHT: How does Malakoff Diggins impact the well-being of the Yuba River? SYRCL members might want to pose that question to their executive director.”
Memo to Publisher Don Rogers and editor Brian Hamilton: Why on earth would The Union want to run George Boardman’s column? Drop it before it undermines your credibility any further! Podunk.
Is this what The Union’s publisher means by “connection.”

“What is that mission? At root it’s all about connection. Readers with the community; advertisers with consumers; the paper in your tube and digital tools at your fingertips.”
Po-dunk.
SYRCL advocates for the Yuba River watershed, not simply the river itself. Last time I checked Malakoff State Park is an historic resource within the watershed. Dahle has been supportive of other watershed work such as securing half a million dollars for meadows restoration. Boardman is an ass wipe and an eye sore. Why the Union continues to allow him to use their rag as a podium is beyond belief.
