The Union Publisher Don Rogers, meet The Union cartoonist RL Crabb:
Don writes this week: “I found (Hunter) Thompson an obnoxious ass, a boor. Drunk, drugged up, proud of shooting stuff, blowing up stuff, juvenile stuff. Belligerent, arrogant, in love with his own wit, believing his own baloney, and fawned over for just those qualities.”
RL Crabb has written: “I idolized guys like Hunter, whose drug-fueled adventures in Las Vegas and on the campaign trail inspired many to emulate his indulgences.”
What a hoot!
BTW, I thought Hunter was overrated. When I worked at The Chronicle, the rival Examiner hired Hunter as a columnist. It was a stunt to lure readers.
