George Boardman: “The lady doth protest too much, methinks”

Poor “Bored Georgeman.” My blog has him all tied up in knots. I’m just holding up a mirror to his “commentary,” from asinine claims that YubaNet is “smoke and mirrors” to egregious errors such as confusing the Folsom dam with the Auburn dam. Duh!

All the talent that we have in our community, and The Union chooses a fossil with a resume of jumping from one podunk newspaper to another (and then into p.r.) as its paid weekly columnist. He is not reflective of our community.

But don’t take my word for it: Ask around. I wonder if the new publisher, Mr. Rogers, is asking around. He should be.

I guess it reflects The Union’s demographics — aging and declining. George at least ought to upgrade his email account from “AOL” to “gmail.” After all, it’s 2016, not 1998. ROFLOL.

  1. Like others incoming supervisor Heidi Hall is all over the YubaNet/KVMR town hall broadcast too on Facebook: “I am listening in on KVMR 89.5 FM right now, to the fire safety and Yuba River canyon meeting tonight at the Nevada Theatre. Please tune in. I have already learned that access and parking is one of the biggest issues. I will be going down in person later. Tune in now…this impacts your own safety if you live in our area.”

No word from “Bored Georgeman” about this valuable public service provided by YubaNet/KVMR, however.

  2. Wow! “Board Georgeman” is garnering comments from “Rachel French,” Todd Juvinall and himself. A real “brain trust” of our community.

A ongoing problem with George is that I don’t think he understands the meaning of his own words.
He writes: “(YubaNet’s) attempt to become a genuine news source for the foothills is pretty much smoke-and-mirrors.” Back in 2009, I wrote: “Yubanet mostly republishes press releases.”

And George thinks this is the same thing. Words matter, George. That’s why you never made it to the “majors” among metro newspapers and fled to p.r.

Then he writes this about Heidi Hall:
“But apparently it was a revelation to Heidi Hall that “access and parking is one of the biggest issues.” This seems strange since she wrote about her love of the river when she had a column in The Union. Maybe Hall has a secret parking place, or maybe she’s just clueless. We’ll start finding out in January.”

George Boardman is turning out to be the worst spokesman The Union could ever hope for. But don’t take my word for it. Ask the publisher whether circulation is growing, or shrinking, since it hired George as a paid columnist. And ask how many people find value in George’s column. Talk about a business shooting itself in the foot.
