Our local paper “on the road” — not too informative

We are enjoying a family vacation in Seattle and the San Juan Islands before school starts. (Summer is too short).

Earlier this week, I tried to find out what was going on at home based on The Union. I fired up the smartphone and found this: A web headline will go here.  Huh? “Spaceship Earth to Mr. Rogers and crew.”

This morning, instead of being treated to a throught-provoking editorial, I got to read an “Other Voices” that vocal local Stan Meckler is going to vote for Donald Trump — “after much soul searching,” no less. The headline was “Ready to Make America Great Again.” It was disappointing on all fronts.

Though increasingly surrounded by Amazon.com buildings in its leafy neighborhood, The Seattle Times is still doing a good job. It has won 10 Pulitzer Prizes, a notice on the front page reminds readers.

I was reminded that we’ll restart our subscription to the Sacramento Bee once we get home and school starts.
