Unbeaten Nyquist wins Kentucky Derby

This three-year-champion with California ties is named for the Swedish ice hockey player Gustav Nyquist, who plays for the Detroit Red Wings. He is owned by J. Paul Reddam and trained by Doug O’Neill — the same team that won the 2012 Kentucky Derby with I’ll Have Another. Nyquist has raced much of his career at Del Mar and Santa Anita racetracks in Southern California. O’Neill and his family live in Santa Monica.
