New columnist at The Union Hilary Hodge gives us a sense of “place” — but rattles hard right

Our resident intolerant rightwing-nuts are threatened at Hilary Hodge’s column in The Union, and that means she’s doing a superlative job — not poking them but just celebrating the diversity of our community.

“The Liberal Mind – Hilary Hodge can’t connect the dots,” George Rebane wrote on his blog. This asshat— a Ph.D who has benefited from many government programs, no less — administers the “Tech Test” for kiddos around here despite his ongoing intolerance for people who aren’t like-minded. The parents of “Tech Test” kiddos ought to pay more attention. We do.

Todd Juvinall, the second biggest asshat in western Nevada County, weighs in with “Hillary Hodge, stop the whining!” Todd ought to lighten up on Hilary and pay his delinquent property taxes, according to county tax records.

Hilary has a great column in The Union on Tuesday: “Nevada County even better than I thought it would be.” It is uplifting.

She writes, and I enjoyed this part the most: “When my friends come to visit, they are always surprised by how big our garden is and that we know all of our neighbors by name. They are stunned to learn that Emily’s Catering is actually owned by a person named Emily and that you can find Matt at Matteo’s Public on most days.”

For his part, Rebane writes “her ‘wife,'” referring to Hilary’s marriage partner in quote marks. Memo to George: Men and women both have wives. This is 2016. No quote marks are needed.

Nevada County has benefited greatly from an exodus of people from the Bay Area, including people who are gay, who helped settle and invigorate our area.

You can read more about all of these heroes in the current issue of our magazine, which is here. After all, we are a diverse bunch!

  1. Poor Todd is becoming unhinged in his response. His mommy should have washed his mouth out with soap when he was a child. On Facebook, meanwhile, one signed comment reads: “Todd and George are charter members of The Gang of Five Regressives.” Ha!

    1. Fish is talking to himself again. He must not have friends in Carmichael. He has to travel up the hill to our local wing nut blogs.
