Editor’s note: I was glad to see Heidi Hall, who is running for district 1 Supervisor, address this bombastic letter in The Union by Stan Meckler, a local tea party co-founder and whose son, Mark, co-founded the tea party’s national movement. It should also be a lesson to The Union to “dig deeper” in its own reporting:
“I was surprised and saddened to see Mr. Meckler’s letter in The Union on April 26, calling into question my integrity after I shared information, at his request, pointing out the connections between the Americans for Good Government and Tea Party in good faith,” Heidi Hall writes in The Union.
“Please read the source material for yourself: Sierra Foothills Report, May 30, 2014 and YubaNet, March 9, 2016; then consider the company candidates keep and the funding they receive when deciding who to trust with your vote for supervisor.
“I am, and have always been, a Democrat, and received a contribution openly from the Democratic party — I have been and will continue to be transparent about my backers.
“My opponent switched his party from Democrat to Decline to State after entering the race, and took money from AFGG, a PAC created by a Tea Party founder and a GOP operative in 2014, as explained clearly in the articles cited above. They cannot now expect people to believe this group has nothing to do with the Tea Party. This is exactly the kind of secretive and cynical politics I stand against.
“I am proud to stand up for what I believe, and to do so openly.
