Auburn school retires beloved student’s athletic jersey

Editor’s note: This is wonderful! We know the O’Neill family.

Forest Lake Christian School held a jersey retirement ceremony Wednesday for Anna O’Neill, who was killed 11 months ago in a car accident while on her way home with her family from a school league soccer game.

Hi Jeff, Just a note about the Forest Lake story. Forest Lake is not an Auburn school. Even though it has an Auburn mailing address, it is physically in Nevada County. The same is true for Lake of the Pines, the Holiday/Round Table shopping center and even Higgins Fire District. It’s confusing at best and at worst leads people to believe that they live in Placer County, therefore it making it easy for them to choose to shop ‘down the hill’. When you call 911 from Lake of the Pines or from Forest Lake School or from Holiday Market, you get a Nevada County response…but if you are shopping in Auburn, you will have funded Placer County’s law enforcement and fire protection. It would be great to have some way to educate folks in LOP that they actually live in Nevada County. Any ideas?

    Hi,
KCRA and other news outlets typically refer to the mailing address in identifying where a business is located, including “Auburn school” in this case. Maybe the South Nevada County Chamber of Commerce could launch the type of campaign you are referring to. It would be in their interest, as well as the interest of their members. Have a great weekend!
