Carson plans to endorse Trump

“Conservative favorite Ben Carson, who last week suspended his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination, plans to endorse Donald Trump on Friday morning, according to two people familiar with his thinking,” the Washington Post is reporting. (Carson and Trump won a “bean” poll at the Nevada County Fair, as previously reported).

“The endorsement, perhaps the most high-profile nod for Trump since New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie backed him, was finalized Thursday morning when Carson met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago, the luxury club owned by the Republican front-runner, the people said. The sources requested anonymity to discuss private conversations.

“Friday’s announcement will also take place at the club in Palm Beach, Fla., where the onetime rivals will appear alongside one another at a news conference.”

  1. As we have seen the rising violent rhetoric coming out of the Trump campaign, his demonization of critics in the public, from the press, and against those he and his followers consider outsiders in the American experience, as he marches to the Republican nomination now close to assured, I am increasingly convinced that we have a responsibility to protest his beliefs and stand up against tyranny.

Trumps actions yesterday taking ‘credit for de-escalting the situation then attempting to turn the frame of the argument to ‘political correctness’ and ‘law and order’, is a classic political strong man ploy to incite violence then play the victim, more akin to Putin or Ceaușescu than an American political leader. This is a classic gambit to make the candidate seem to be the one standing up for the ‘real Americans’ against agitators and outsiders.

Whoever the Democratic Party nominee is this is sure to be a campaign of demonization, invective, false charge, red baiting, and personal attack. It is sad that American politics has fallen to the level of a nation new to democratic institutions, but it was an inevitable outcome of allowing irrational, fear and hate based movements like the Tea Party to go substantively unchallenged for so long, both from within the Republican Party, and from opposing forces.

Republicans brought this on themselves and must be made to pay the political price, they brought the hate and fear to their breast and embraced it in order to maintain power.

(Locally this is what happens when you support the conspiracy theorists who demonize opponents like John Birch Society, Constitutional Sheriffs and CABPRO. This is what happens when people get away with calling Muslims ‘rag heads’, African-Americans ‘jigaboos’–which one local blog poster did without push back–when you claim entire classes and groups of people are evil based on religion, when you support thieves like Cliven Bundy taking up arms against law enforcement, when you call anyone who disagrees with your vision of economics a communist, when you lie about the origins of and philosophy of fascism and don’t get challenged, when you get a platform for irrational positions without challenge.

Want an example of the local face of fascism:
“If the right rallies in a Federal Preserve in Oregon, they kill them.” –Todd Juvinall

Really Mr. Juvinall, rallies in a Federal Preserve? Sure looked to everyone else likes the armed seizure of federal property.

“If a old dude knocks out a jerk in a Trump rally, arrest the old guy.”–Todd Juvinall Really Mr. Juvinall, sure looked to everyone else who saw the tape like a criminal assault.)

How people protest now will help determine whether or not the power of fear can rise, as we have seen so many fear based movements rise based on the reaction of the target of their fear; the more violent the protest the stronger the power of the fear. Fear politics is jiu jitsu. Mahatma Gandhi found the single most effective counter protest to fear: Satyagraha. “Truth Power” The constant, peaceful, present, fearless insistence on the truth, the presentation of love in the face of fear, but ever-present and willing to speak up, disrupt and place oneself in the line of fear to make one’s point.

More power to the protesters, I hope they continue to disrupt, speak up, and hold fear accountable for its pernicious erosion of our principles, rights and liberties.

  2. I’ve come to call the right wing of this community to be in the throws of 51st-Ism. (Fifty First ISM)
If the the State should vote overwhelmingly for pot legalization (medicinal AND recreational)-
Nevada County should make laws against the majority.
If the Supreme Court has agreed to legalize being gay –
Nevada County should make a law against it. (read Norm Sauer’s (the Unions Editorial Board Bozo) bloviating in today’s Union)
If the State outlaws machine guns-
Our so called “Constitutional Sheriff” and Nevada County will ignore it.
A movement to get money out of politics.
Nevada County will join in the “PAC mentality” where rich right wingers fund extreme rhetoric, and candidates.
All this until Nevada County and the BOS have us as an island in the stream. Isolated, small minded pockets of extremism here in Northern California.
Fifty First mind set, last Century puritanical ideals, dragging our town down into becoming a State, and National disgrace.

  3. “The Stop Trump Terrorists

    George Rebane

As did Hitler’s Brown Shirts, so have other socialist/communist thugs and roughnecks throughout recent history been the ones to physically disrupt the gatherings of their political opponents. This is what happened yesterday in Chicago at the planned Trump rally (here), and appears to be the start of this election season’s violent phase – expect more of such thuggery and violation of First Amendment rights from the Left.

Apparently this junction is the result of the Democrats finally realizing that Trump could beat anyone they nominate whether it be Hillary the Unindicted, Bernie the Communist (forget that ‘socialist’ crap), or even Foot-in-the-Mouth Joe. Were it not so, no one would care. The Dems’ big money is beginning to fund anti-Trump activities and front their far-left ideologues which tactics bare their true assessment of what’s likely for this fall unless they can physically intervene, and, of course, have the lamestream blame it on the Right.

The astute reader will note and mark the Left/Right asymmetry in the coming travails. The only ones who will remain clueless about what’s going on are the gruberized local lefties here and elsewhere. They’ll continue singing loudly some version of The Internationale for as long as it takes. Trump should now cool his rhetoric, to which he has every right, and continue morphing into maximum presidential mode from here on. Thoughts?”

    Here are my thoughts.

George once asked me when I objected to his support for a ban on Muslim immigration into the US ‘when has America ever allowed criminal immigrants into the United States’ and I replied, “after WWII we allowed Nazi war criminals into the US as part of Operation Paperclip.” For the uninformed it is important to note that the OSS helped thousands of Nazi’s escape justice by classifying them as security assets and helping many of them use the underground escape route through Italy to South America.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Paperclip

George then bounced me from his blog permanently because he took umbrage at what he believed was me making some reference to what his father was doing working as a electrician under Third Reich occupation. Actually I was just siting a historical fact.

I think the answer is pretty clear. George has openly stated that people should be able to choose to live with people ‘who share their culture’ and ‘who think like them’ and exclude ‘others’ who do not. I would say it is this simple, if you are white, Christian, European, straight, and conservative, you are welcome in America, if not, fu*# you.

The first amendment protects people from interference in free speech by the GOVERNMENT, not from free speech by free citizens who oppose George’s and Trump’s racist, white supremacist, exclusionary and fear based point of view who express that at public events.. Protest and disruptive behavior may be restricted within a specific venue because it is private property and the right to be present is restricted, and in those cases protesters may be removed, but not attacked. Perhaps if one is going to PRETEND they know their ass from a hole in the ground about the Constitution and puff themselves up as some kind of patriot, they should learn that first.
