I notice Lorraine Jewett’s byline is increasingly appearing in The Union — giving her some renewed public exposure. This morning, for example, Lorraine wrote two front page news stories.
She is a freelance writer, but her byline is on news stories, not just features. She often writes about our local “powers that be” and their social circles.
This comes at the same time I keep hearing around town that Lorraine may run for County Clerk-Recorder when Greg Diaz is up for re-election in June 2018. Diaz was recently elected president of the County Recorders’ Association of California.
Lorraine was elected Clerk-Recorder in 1998, re-elected in 2002 and resigned in 2004, citing “budget cuts in Nevada County,” as YubaNet reports.
Whenever Lorraine begins organizing a political campaign, she should stop writing for The Union.
Heidi Hall set an example when she dropped her column in The Union after deciding to run for District 1 supervisor. “For reasons of political propriety,” her release stated, “Hall will no longer write her twice monthly column in The Union.”
KNCO reporter Paul Haas dropped his on-air presence when he ran for Superintendent of Schools.
The Union management needs to track this too.
