More pearls of wisdom from The Union’s Op-Ed page: We’re headed down the road to “serfdom”

Norm Sauer is a member of The Union Editorial Board. It is a reminder that our towns are an “Adult Disneyland,” where you can retire and be whomever you want to be. Isn’t that special! Don’t expect our towns to be a magnet for job growth or families, however. We are a little too “out in right field” for that. The article about the recent U.N. Climate Summit in Paris is here. Oh Mon Dieu!

  1. Mr.Sauer props up his argument by using quotes from the Investor Business Daily. The same IBD that claimed Stephen Hawking “wouldn’t have a chance in the UK because British National Health Services would say the life of this brilliant man, because of his physical handicaps, is essentially worthless.” Hawking has always lived in the U.K. and receives his medical care from the NHS.

Facts are only employed by IBD when it suits their heavily right leaning agenda. If the facts don’t work, they depend on the gullibility of its readers and their disincentive to check facts and pull stuff out of thin air. Climate change has always been in the cross hairs of IBD. Norm is smarter than this.

  2. The point some people seem to be missing is that the entire “climate denial” industry (think tanks, web sites, columnists, fox news, fake science) is a hoax, not the other way around. It is the direct result of Exxon and the oil industry’s decades long (since the late 70’s) attempts to cover up their own scientific data supporting the greenhouse gas theory and seed doubt about the science to preserve long term profit and equity. Thus, life and civilization as we know it for the entire human race has been put in a precarious situation so that the wealthy few (62 people have more wealth than the lower half of the planet combined) can continue to play monopoly. The Union should be reporting on that.

  3. Meanwhile, the sock puppets on Todd’s blog continue to equate “wholesale gas prices” with an “out-of-town retailer.” No wonder they want to be “anonymous.” And on top of that, promoting gas that sells for $1.99 a gallon in Dunnigan — a 90-mile drive from western Nevada County. Go fill ‘er up!

    1. Then this: “Todd JuvinallFebruary 2, 2016 at 5:19 PM I have always considered the cost of gasoline the indicator species for the economy. The lower the better. We saw how many billions were put into the tanks of Americans and that money could be considered like a tax. People were able to get around but could not afford much broccoli.”

I wonder if Todd reads current events. http://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2016/01/28/oil-prices-economy-jobs-editorials-debates/79487076/

Todd and his sock puppets personify the uneducated bumpkin.

  4. Then there’s George Boardman — driving around town hunting for 4 cent a gallon lower gas prices. I wonder if he calculates that cost into the equation. ROFLOL. I didn’t know retirement could be so boring:
    “George BoardmanFebruary 2, 2016 at 4:28 PM
The Arco in Grass Valley was $1.99 earlier today, as is Fast Gas (if you pay cash) at Wolfe Road and 49. I haven’t been to Auburn since Saturday, but it was $2.03 at the Dry Creek Arco then and I’ll bet it’s under $2 now.”
