Local hard-right bloggers now recruiting candidates for District 1 Supe

Cheri West has dropped out of the District 1 supervisor race, citing her workload in the Sacramento legislature. Now our local hard-right political bloggers are seeking their own “viable” candidates.

“I’m concerned that we don’t have a viable declared candidate in Nevada County’s District #1 to oppose Ms. Heidi Hall for Supervisor,” George Rebane writes. “Anyone have any ideas?”

Last month on his politically extreme “blog” — more like a bulletin board dominated by internet trolls and vile personal attacks — Todd Juvinall of all people mused, “Nate Beason is retiring. The rest of you hear this, I may run!”

“Run, Todd run,” Steve Frisch said jokingly.

“You should run,” Mike Sherman wrote. “I don’t even live in Nevada County but would send some bucks to offset the cost. Seriously, ‘Run Todd, run!'”

Juvinall’s blog often includes insulting remarks directed at Heidi Hall by internet trolls. Todd regularly attacks Hillary Clinton. The other day he ran Hillary’s photo with the headline “Face of a felon”? On our President: “Obama has transformed America. You like it? If not fight back, elect real Americans next time.” Others include “Local democrats are chickens! Or cows! LOL!” ; “Black Prosecutors Association ?”; “NAACP is the American Taliban? Without religion though!”; “Marriage means anything we want it to mean now. SCOTUS GODS say so.” You get the point.

Local GOPers have asked Todd to “tone it down” — to no avail:

Came to this blog to read what I thought would be intelligent, well-thought-out critiques of liberals. What I find instead is a bunch of angry rants, misspelled (intentionally) names/organizations, and platitudes. Our Republican Party chair for Nevada County recently wrote what I thought was a very pertinent piece that pointed out the need for plurality. If you keep portraying liberals as radicals, wait until the revolutionary left rears its ugly head. Tone it down, guys.

No, I think this is tame. Look around you and if you think the liberals care what you think then you are truly demented.”

It seems our local conservative political scene has morphed into the national Presidential race on the GOP side, where Ben Carson and Donald Trump are way ahead of Jeb Bush, whose brother and father were President. The race is often marked by outlandish comments.

Carson has blamed the Holocaust on Nazi gun control in an interview on CNN. Details are here.  The president of the United States should not be a Muslim,  Carson also has declared.

Trump took his spat with Fox News’ Megyn Kelly, who asked him tough questions during the first GOP presidential debate, to a whole new level. “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her — wherever,” one of the leading GOP candidates told CNN’s Don Lemon, referring to his back-and-forth with Kelly, a moderator of Thursday’s debate.

I chalk it a lot of it up to Fox News and TV soundbites, Rush Limbaugh and conservative talk radio, and some of the candidates themselves.

  1. I think Todd should run, and proudly march through town waving the banner of the State of Jefferson. I think it would be a good tonic for him, and would show how the voters in District One feel about the State of Jefferson concept, a concept which I believe Thomas Jefferson would have been appalled by.

  2. He doesn’t have the courage. His “game” is being surrounded by adoring internet trolls. Big difference.

  3. Over on Rebane’s blog, “jon” has Bessee tied up in knots. He thinks “jon” is me. I guess it’s hard for Don to imagine that more than one person thinks he’s a big boob. ROFLOL.

  4. I guess Todd Juvinall was always like this. Here’s an excerpt from his latest blog post regarding SYRCL, a local school teacher, The Union and his temperament:

“When I was a local political person, conservative and Republican, I had to start issuing press releases to make sure the press could not screw the words up. Well they still did. I recall when I debated a gal from SYRCL back in my CABPRO days.

“A teacher from Silver Springs invited us to discuss Wild and Scenic and other issues. The debate went well. I kicked the SYRCL person’s ass and the students actually surrounded me and had further discussions because their teacher had never given them anything but the SYRCL pablum. It was great!

“There was no press at the debate in the classroom. The next day there was a Union article by a female reporter who said I was verbally rough on the kids and they were this or that. It was a crummy artical (sic). Anyway since there was no reporter there I thought where did this come from?

“So I went into the Union and asked John Seelmeyer, the editor how this article claiming to have been written by someone at the debate came to be. He said, ‘oh, the teacher did a report’. So the teacher sent them his lying version and a reporter at the Union wrote the story as if she was there. I got into a shouting match with Seelmeyer and totally lost all respect for the jerk. Of course when these lies get into print or TV, the opposition then uses them to trash a person.”

  5. At a Swift gathering in Reno around 2007, John Seelmeyer told me that being editor of The Union was like being caught in the middle of a bar fight. LOL. He later was editor of the Northern Nevada Business Weekly.
