Who’s the smartest Ph.D.?

“Dr.” George Rebane is the biggest blowhard in the local blogosphere, bar none. And his merry band of limited but vocal “followers” (Don Bessee, Russ Steele, “Walt,” Gregory Goodnight, Todd Juvinall, “fish”, or AKA, David Larsen of Carmichael) are just as bad — and some are worse. A few are downright nasty, resorting to personal attacks when the intellectual “going gets tough.” I laugh when “jon” (who is not me) challenges them.

For years, the group has taunted Dr. Anna Haynes (also a Ph.D.), a smart longtime local who created the NCVoices aggregated site. As we’ve written here before, Anna is a pioneer of innovation when it comes to local internet communications, just like YubaNet and others.

Haynes also happens to articulate the mainstream view on global warming, and this band of aging, “flat earth society” males (among “those who reject mainstream climate science”) has hammered on her. One nasty, untrue and mean-spirited post from Rebane titled “The sad tale of Anna Haynes” comes to mind. It makes you wonder whether at least some of them are also misogynists. I do.

Now Rebane has figured out that Haynes is a real achiever, writing on his blog: “Dr. Anna Haynes’ website NC Voices has been a useful compendium of links to local online information and media sources.”

Then he whines: “I notice that she has recently rearranged the categorization and display of links to these sources. NC Scooper and RL Crabb formerly enjoyed a ‘humor’ section of their own, but have now been buried in a potpourri of websites/blogs the nature of which eludes. I wonder how/where they stepped out of line. And a new ‘Climate/H2O’ category has been added that properly reflects this very leftwing website and the sentiments of its owner/publisher. However, only True Believers are allowed their links in this section; skeptics (now called ‘Climate contrarians’) are still relegated off-page to the last righthand column. That is where RR finds itself included with websites and blogs which have long been abandoned or unused. On the other hand, the most prominent top lefthand and first category of blogs continues to be labeled ‘JeffP’, and belongs to none other than Mr Jeff Pelline. Most readers will agree that it is most appropriate and appreciated that RR finds itself bookended from that progressive propagandist and his purple pillar of social justice, morality, and correct thought.”

Then Don Bessee — one of the biggest loudmouths of the bunch — weighs in:

“Couldn’t find crabman or your link, think it was meant to be that way. Not sure what sin RL Crab committed but in your case I think they are feeling the conversation is being driven in directions they do not want.  We had a full house at the Republican debate watching party at Alta Sierra Pizza. Thanks AS Pizza and their great crew! The debate looser was CNBC.

And the comment thread continues:

“George Rebane
donb 809pm – You are right Mr Bessee, the Scooper and Crabb links were there under ‘General’, and now they have been reassigned. Crabb is under ‘TU Opinion …’??? and Scooper has been promoted to a slot under the FUE. Perhaps more moves are planned in the future.

“Great debate tonight. Yes, CNBC wound up with much egg on its face – the moderators were crass amateurs properly brought to heel by Sen Cruz and reinforced by all others. In sum, if offered a choice of blindly throwing a dart at any of the Repubs vs Mrs Clinton, just hand me the dart. Can’t believe that the Dems even called their event a ‘debate’. However, there are still the gruberized out there … Posted by: George Rebane | 28 October 2015 at 08:30 PM

You can’t make this stuff up! Another chapter for “The State of Jefferson” book writes itself.

  1. “Fish” (AKA David Larsen of Carmichael) is now writing incomprehensible gibberish. He has single handedly polluted any meaningful discussion on Rebane’s blog; Todd’s has been a lost cause for a long time.

  2. The biggest moron of all the internet trolls on Todd’s blog (who is easily identified) writes of me: …”regarding his new location on NCVOICES.” Dear Moron, The position is unchanged. LOL. I wonder where this guy went to school — if at all.

    1. I forget to mention Gregory Goodknight, (AKA Mr. Nasty and Mr. No Personality), a fixture on the wing nut blogs.

Gregory Goodknight wrote: “Furthermore, if you took chemistry or physics at a college like Cal Berkeley and you weren’t a math, chemistry, physics or engineering major, you probably took the “lite” versions of those classes so you didn’t have to master subjects like multivariable calculus or differential equations needed to study and understand those subjects.”

In fact, Gregory I took engineering calculus and chemistry along with the science majors at Cal. That’s how I educated myself.

How do you do things Gregory? An “independent software engineer at my place.” For a Harvey Mudd graduate, no less. I can imagine how your listing reads in the alumni magazine. ROFLOL.

I suspect Gregory is so nasty is because he wants to feel better about himself — a theme with the personalities on the wing nut blogs. And who can blame him? And I also notice that more often than not his assumptions — including whether I took calculus “light” at Cal or not — are wrong. Not very scientific for a self-proclaimed scientist. Ridiculing the Newsoms? No, Gregory we’re ridiculing you. And we never run out of material — from your false assumptions to your basic comprehension of scientific terms such as “vapor lock” (or lack thereof).

You are right at home on the Rebane blog too, along with George, Don Bessee, “fish,” and Todd — more like a mud pit than Harvey Mudd.

  3. Gregory is a bigger buffoon than I thought — once again showing his ignorance is eclipsed by his big, nasty mouth. Yes, Gregory there is an “engineering calculus” at Cal. It’s called Math 1A and Math 1B and Math 53 and Math 54. http://engineering.berkeley.edu/student-services/new-students/first-math-course
That’s opposed to calculus “light,” which is Math 16A and Math 16B for business and liberal arts majors — if they choose to take math at all.

Gregory ought to spend a little less time on Rebane’s blog and a little more time in the university world if he professes to be an intellect. He’s a little (or a lot) rusty.

Like “Dr.” Rebane, Gregory beats his “intellectual” chest in a small rural community, trying to intimidate others with his big words. But when you peel back the layers of the onion, you find he’s accomplished much less than he would lead you to believe. This is what you learn in journalism — we call it the “B.S.” meter. And Gregory sends that meter off the charts — and always has.

After all, Gregory went to Harvey Mudd and he still can’t grasp basic concepts such as climate change. What a waste of his parents’ hard-earned money. ROFLOL.

  4. Now Russ Steele is ridiculing Reinette Senum on Rebane’s blog. “People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.” After all, Russ’ intellectual hero is a weatherman from Chico. ROFLOL.
