Pioneer Park shines in regional spotlight

Editor’s note: We had mentioned this before, but Nevada City is hosting a regional Little League tournament this weekend. It’s “going to be great for our community,” as the league president states in a letter.

“We are hosting the 10/11 year old section tournament here from Saturday, July 13th through Thursday, July 18th. We will host teams from five Districts around Northern California, many of whom have never been to Nevada City before. It is great for our community, and great for our league. We make a lot of money through the Snack Shack during these tournaments, and we can use that money to improve our facilities, buy much needed equipment, and provide a great experience for our kids. Here are some things that we may be able to fund if we have the funding (pun intended):

“- Pay for the shade netting on the upper field, something long overdue!
– Repair or re-sod the infield grass for the upper field.
– Add dirt to the upper field so the grounders don’t pop up & hit the kids in the chin!
– Improve the Junior field with more dirt, a scoreboard, some shade.

There’s more, but you get the idea. 🙂

THANK YOU to those of you who have already volunteered to help with the tournament!”

  1. Well if that radical, nudist, toking, anarchist, collectivist, Obamista Michael Anderson isn’t off doing something to get ready for Burning Man he is going to be really happy with this story on LIttle League!

    1. Hey Steve, I resemble that remark! And if you spend any time on another local blog, you’ll know that one of the big art projects out in the desert this year is called “The Juvinall” with live squirrels, tiny nuts, and a faux TSA terminal being the highlights.

I’m actually on the NCLL board and will be on the grounds crew for most of the tournament games. You don’t have to be involved with Nevada City Little League to help out, anyone can volunteer. Check out this Google doc if you are willing and able:

  2. Not to mention a designated seat for known anarchist Bruce U. Utah Phillips. It is a beautiful setting for everybody involved. We used to go down long after our son was done with majors to support the league and the snack shack.
