Fox News benches Karl Rove (a hero of the local hard right)

Can Dr. Rebane get a refund from his dinner with Karl in Sutter?
Editor’s note: Our local “tin-foil hat” blogger George Rebane has gushed about a night out with Karl Rove. “He comes across lucid, informative in abundant detail,” PhD. Rebane said. More details of “An evening with Dan and Karl” are here. But Karl is losing his clout, even at Fox News, or “you know what” mountain, as some pundits call it:

“The post-election soul-searching going on inside the Republican Party is taking place inside Fox News as well,” New York magazine reports.

“Fox News chief Roger Ailes, a canny marketer and protector of his network’s brand, has been taking steps since November to reposition Fox in the post-election media environment, freshening story lines — and in some cases, changing the characters.

“According to multiple Fox sources, Ailes has issued a new directive to his staff: He wants the faces associated with the election off the air — for now. For Karl Rove and Dick Morris — a pair of pundits perhaps most closely aligned with Fox’s anti-Obama campaign — Ailes’s orders mean new rules. Ailes’s deputy, Fox News programming chief Bill Shine, has sent out orders mandating that producers must get permission before booking Rove or Morris. Both pundits made several appearances in the days after the election, but their visibility on the network has dropped markedly.”

  1. I would have liked to be at the meeting where Karl explained what went wrong to the Koch brothers and the other big-bucks contributors to his loser PACs. Do you think Karl offered to refund his fee?

  2. They should give Karl an award for “least bang for your buck” political consulting. Of course he is going to disappear from Faux, so probably will a bunch of others that ended up looking like fools after the 2012 elections. So what, Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch will just roll out a new crop of faces that will be no different because that is what plays to the Faux viewers.
