No apology from the local tea party or “Tea Party Gazette” for bashing KVMR

The Union ran a rebuttal from KVMR this weekend, calling out the local tea party’s leader Stan Meckler for incorrectly stating “KVMR refuses to interview me” in a previous editorial.

KVMR’s article, signed by its program manager and program director, is here. It included a photo of the interview, held last August at the fairgrounds. The background is here.

But there has been no apology from Mecker, or The Union (dubbed “The Tea Party Gazette” by some critics) to the community for allowing the glaring mistake (AKA a “lie” to many of us) to get published in the first place.

Where’s the accountability? No word on this issue, either, from vocal local tea party supporters Barry Pruett, Russ Steele and George Rebane, among others.

This is par for the course when it comes to tea party rhetoric. And it’s par for the course for our county, too, where “anything goes.”

Shame on The Union for its lack of professionalism in “fact checking” a commentary. Po-dunk.

“Short-term memory loss; hate that when it happens,” one reader said on The Union’s comments. “(Either that or he had one too many funnel cakes and stumbled into what he thought was KNCO).”

Added another: “A consistent pattern of distorting reality, ‘bending’ facts is observed in the Far Right.”

  1. It was not long ago the Stan Meclker was invited onto KVMR, was interviewed and spoke on KMVR… it was August 2010!

Why did Stan Meckler attack KVMR in The Union and claim KVMR has never invited him on?

Looks to be a flat out lie by the Tea Party leader.

  2. The Union has long denied responsibility for the factual accuracy of anything on the op-ed page. Back in April 2008 they printed a letter claiming it was illegal to bicycle on Rough and Ready Highway–something anyone who has taken the written DMV test should know is nonsense. I’m not surprised at all that they continue to avoid taking responsibility.

  3. I like to think of it as “The Rumplestiltskin Effect”…if you don’t like reality, or the fact that its not you who is spinning straw into gold because you don’t have what it takes, or that someone has called you out with the truth, you take your little pointy troll self and stomp on the floor until you and your little pointy hat fall through the floor. It doesn’t wear well with most people who are accountible with facts, minus propaganda. Just because the “Rumpelstiltskins” of the world, like Rebane, Steel, Juvinal, Pruett (an ex-candidate is he?) and now an ex-supervisor wish their petty propaganda were the truth, doesn’t make it so…So they meet up and decide to cry about their perceived slights and sour grapes instead of making Nevada City and California a better place. So? The real movers and shakers are already busy at their task…spinning California into the gold they know…Kate

  4. In the Saturday, Jan. 22, edition of The Union an Other Voices from KVMR pointed out that the Meckler assertion to never having been interviwed was incorrect. This should result in some on-line pro and con comments, perhaps a reply from Meckler or someone in the T P group. This is still escaping responsibility on the part of The Union, it seems, but better than nothing.
