Whitman and Fiorina avoid right-wing political rallies

While Sarah Palin (and Tom McClintock) gathered this weekend at separate political events in Orange County, Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina were campaigning on opposite ends of the state.

Whitman and Fiorina cited scheduling conflicts as the reason they could not attend, according to the L.A. Times. Yea, sure.

As the Times points out: “The candidates also had political rationales for avoiding a joint appearance. A recent Field poll showed that nearly two-thirds of independent voters in California view Palin unfavorably — and Republicans here need the support of independents to overcome Democrats’ double-digit voter registration edge.”

As I’ve said all along, most of us are “in the middle” or centrists.

  1. Jeff,

Need I point out that if either of the Republicans had attended these rallies, then you would have said they were alienating those “in the middle.”

One of the national polls shows the President losing independents by a two-to-one margin right now: IF he comes to California should Senator Boxer appear with him or would that upset those “in the middle?”

  2. Obama was needed in Maryland, and showed with the Dem Senatorial Coons. If Fiorina and Whitman appeared with Palin, and showed Tea Party aliagnment, then Obama would be needed here. Spell check is off?

  3. John, think what is being pointed out here is that possibility of alienating those in the middle (and agree that is where most of us are, perhaps a little to the left, little to the right) is the reason those Republicans in heated races in CA avoided the political events attended by Palin and McClintock. Think recent polls indicate Whitman will need to work hard if she is to keep up, Fiorina is close, but still behind a point. Hard for even a moderate Republican to win in California unless a very popular ex movie star. The ladies running now don’t even come close to that.
