I wrote above: “I believe the event is sold out. I got my ticket weeks ago. I’ll be reporting on the blogs whether this tit-for-tat actually has anything to do with Hutley’s presentation.”

Just got back from the event. Best technical presentation I’ve ever attended in Nevada County.

As I suspected, the event was entirely non-partisan and the room was filled with a good sample of Nevada County denizens of all political types–liberals, conservatives, and independents.

Mr. Hutley also gave George Rebane a good run for his money regarding the Singularity prediction. All in all, an extremely informative, entertaining, and worthwhile presentation. Once it’s up the NCTV website I encourage everyone who was not able to attend to have a look.

The following video is about the future in glass; Mr. Hutley presentation was in this same vein, but about every category of technology you can image. Well done TechForum organizers and SESF.

I’m not surprised. One of my Texan friends, a stereotypical good ole boy, whom I knew when his family moved from Dallas to NY when we were in 7th or 8th grade, then they all move back to TX, starting when I was in Nam ’68 to ’69–and I also lived with them on and off when I was young, was a devout hunter and a gun salesman. We argued about almost every thing–boy did he hate liberals. But he was like a brother. But he too had a despicable picture hanging in his gunshop area–he owned about 150 guns–that of a lynched black man hanging from a tree. He died off a heart attack about 15 years ago–6’3″, 340 lbs., working on a deer lease. It was his hunting friends that I didn’t care for, as for all of them deep thinking was as common as finding powder in a spent shell casing.

And I refuse to call those tea people, the patriots that they claim for themselves. What effrontery.
