“If only Steele Jantz could put on this sort of show every Saturday,” according to the Sunday morning Des Moines Register.
“After a week of speculation about who would be Iowa State’s starting quarterback, Jantz turned in a performance for the ages, orchestrating a 35-21 defeat of Baylor.
“The senior from Agoura Hills, Calif., entertained a Jack Trice Stadium crowd of 54,877 with 36-of-52 passing for 381 yards and five touchdowns.
“He tied the Cyclone records for touchdown passes in a game (set by Todd Bandhauer against Texas in 1998) and completions (established by Austen Arnaud against Missouri in 2008).
“’He looked comfortable in the hotel and looked comfortable in the locker room,’ coach Paul Rhoads said. ‘If that was an indication of how he would play, it made me feel good getting on the bus.’
“Rhoads waited until Friday to name Jantz the starter, ahead of Jared Barnett and Sam Richardson.

Great game for Steele and the Cyclones. Next week look out! – The Sooners got whacked by the Irish, and their frustration was very visible. I may put my $5 on the Sooners to cover.
I think Steele is bringing “Cali” values: hard work but also fun.
Jeff,
I know blood is thicker than water, but how do you get over those USC-like uniforms?
It has been a hurdle, to be sure. My parents graduated from UCLA, so I grew up singing: “Fight on for old ‘SC, the halfback wants his salary”!
I have to say it, Steele Jantz is like, the perfect name for a pro football player.
That’s a pretty hefty handle for a newborn, his parents must have known.
