The Roseburg, Ore., newspaper is seeking one or two reporters, according to JournalismJobs.com. “We are situated in a beautiful part of Oregon, with plenty of outdoor recreation along the rivers and in the national forest. We’re also close to the beach.” At least one year of newspaper reporting experience is required.
Here’s some comments that appeared after a 2008 job posting from the community newspaper that summed up some job seekers feelings:
HandsomeHarley:
My wife grew up here.
The only thing I know about the paper, when we were on welfare and they set me up for an internship paid for by welfare (we were the only ones in the group sessions that wasn’t hungover or stoned), they sent me to the publisher.
He could have had a free intern, off the government’s titty. He said he didn’t have a desk for me.
Editude:
Used to be a prototypical mill town. Trying to diversify, and it’s within driving distance of the coast, mountains and Eugene, but it’s a mite isolated. High school is big and plays big-time sports (on a relative Oregon scale).
WSKY:
So covering Pac-10 game is as likely as …
HandsomeHarley:
… going to the beach without it raining. ;D
