Our “citizen journalist” Shannon Pelline just filed some real-time photos from Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City this morning, where she is on hand to watch her nephew and his teammates at Iowa St. play Iowa.
She joked she was an ISU “groupie” last night, meeting with Steele for an hour in the “secret” hotel location before heading back to hers for a good night’s sleep. She reported all-night revelry for the rivalry outside her window, including girls wearing “micro-skirts” in the streets.
Here’s her photos going into the stadium, named after Nile Kinnick, who won the 1939 Heisman Trophy at the University of Iowa. She reported no “friendly” Iowa State tailgaters; all of them were “black and gold.” (That’s a statue of Nile, with corn growing on the stadium grounds).

Shannon reports that “The Cyclones are in the house.” She is huddling with ISU team parents. Safety in numbers, I suspect.

So far, so good:

Iowa St. 9-Iowa 6
Tight game but the win is on the record. Steele turned in his second game with good stats. That should keep his QB rating up there.
Yikes, but it’s been a while since an ISU quarterback beat Iowa -twice. Shannon described the Iowa crowd as “stunned.” Now she’s headed back to Ames for a short visit. We both know there will be a lot of “film sessions” this week, though. Next week is Western Illinois, so the team could be 3-0 going into its conference opener against Texas Tech.
Congrats, and I loved the corn shot!

BTW, UCLA upset Nebraska. That would have made my Dad pleased. I like the new UCLA coach. A breath of fresh air.
