GOP convention music: “Southern and male”

“Lynyrd Skynyrd, the iconic Southern rockers, like to party for the Grand Old Party,” the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting.

“The near-perennial Republican convention headliners will take the stage again at the GOP’s convention in Tampa, along with Kid Rock, Trace Adkins, Lee Greenwood, The Oak Ridge Boys, and John Anderson.

“Yes, the lineup is male, pretty much all of the country and Southern rock persuasion (Kid Rock spans many musical genres including those two) and just about all are from the land of Dixie.

  1. I like Trace Adkins. Especially his music about his daughters. I’m sure he loves them. Wonder if he’s aware the Tea-OP wants nothing for them. They’re like the Taliban now. I’m afraid that they’ll be shooting women in soccer stadiums next. Or maybe presiding over “The Hunger Games”…Think that’s farfetched? Look at the bills they’ve hawked in Congress. There’s nothing manly or patriotic about it. Drunk with their own power, money from Iran? Iran? This is not Gods handiwork. And they don’t give a Damn if it is…but they’ll throw some bumperstickers at Jesus and the U.S.A. and call it good…

  2. Wonder if the crowd in Tampa will be as diverse as the crowd in the LS video? Will they will trot up Nikki Haley in a tube top to sing back up and Bobby Jindal in a fro to dance just to show they are not REALLY as redneck as LS would imply? I wonder if they will party under the Confederate flag since I know that LS still uses it on tour? Will Mike Huckabee be on bass? I guess not, now that he has embraced Todd Akin.

As a southern rock fan more of the Allman Brothers and Nitty Gritty genre I have to say I am with Neil Young on this one….

  3. I don’t know. I like Lynyrd Synyrd and Neil Young. For that matter, I understand that Ronnie van Zant and Neil Young liked each other too. The music comes out of a different time and place, but is still good in my view.

  4. I expect Hank Williams Jr. to hate Obama as he basically admits. Loved his father, but don’t know the name of any of his hypocrytical, kick ass songs, seeing that he talks the big talk, but just shots animals that don’t shoot back. Before Allman Brothers had made it–and I believe they “made it a year or two before L.S.–I was visiting a good friend and his girl friend in Houston and we went to a coffee house where the Allman Bros. were playing–about 10′ from our table where the managemen had moved a big, round, 8 seater. They were great, but too loud, so we went to a place where we could talk.
