Editor’s note: We reported the other day that The Union’s most experienced reporter, Trina Kleist, had left. Here’s a new posting as of August 17 for a reporter at The Union at JournalismJobs.com. I couldn’t help but noticed the requirements: “two years exerience required.” That’s not much experience compared to the talent that The Union is replacing.

$30,000-$35,000 (@$15.00-$17.50 Per Hour)?
I find it rather “hard” to understand how they could find someone of sufficent “caliber and quality” who would want to stay?
Base upon these numbers that would be taking home @ $2,200 per home, and if you are paying @$1,200 in rent and you have a car (which you must for this job) would at in an additional $1,000 in expenses, this just does not add up, epsically when you have to pay for power, food and all of those things that make life worth living…..
Especially when you want someone who knows their stuff, now if you’re homeless you’ve got it made!
I wish them the best of luck in their search!
Opps… $2200 per month!
Split the job and pay between 3 retirees and you might get some quality.
From what I’ve seen, unless the publisher wants graphs and charts, a progressive/liberal will have to be hired for serious, effective writing.
Is this real? This isn’t a real job posting.
First off, if this was a ‘want-ad’ how much print would this cost?
“We’re looking for a reporter who……….”
–”talented, works hard, produces vigorously.”
–”can handle ……….complex subjects (like?) and investigative material with intense (?!?) government coverage”
– “Our reporter needs to have excellent writing skills,(really, for a newspaper?) strong people skills,……..and be a self-starter.
–bring home the story, not take “no” for an answer and be willing to accept serious, thoughtful editing (?!?).
–Positive attitude, team spirit, technological aptitude, professional presentation, good organization, follow-through and customer service are essential.”(do these really have to be included?)
Doesn’t this ‘go without saying’? Don’t most descriptions say things about Degree requirement?
Except with the implied, yet vague, requirement of government coverage, this position could be filled by a nineteen year old. Big money for a nineteen year old.
