New features at TheUnion.com looming: Think content “tiles” (kissing your dog, etc.)

TheUnion.com will soon relaunch its “paywall” website, as we’ve written previously. A promotion on The Union’s sister newspaper websites, the (Roseburg) NRToday.com and GreeleyTribune.com, already listing the features is here and here. The relaunched Greeley Tribune website is here. Both promote the use of “tiles” or blocks of content. (One of them “Me and my Dog” photo contest is pictured here.) Another feature is an online marketplace. (You can read this section for free.) You can expect similar or identical features at The Union, because of parent Swift’s “cookie cutter” approach to its websites.

Besides The Union, a free, growing, local “marketplace” feature on Facebook is “Nevada County peeps.” “For events, needs and wants, jobs, rentals, offerings, and anything else you’d put on a small town bulletin board. If you run a cottage industry or mom and pop business, please create a document here with your business description and contact information. This will be a directory of local goods and services, so check here if you are looking to buy a product or hire help. Support local economy!”
