Truth and Lies about Medicare

“Republican attacks on President Obama’s plans for Medicare are growing more heated and inaccurate by the day. Both Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan made statements last week implying that the Affordable Care Act would eviscerate Medicare when in fact the law should shore up the program’s finances,” according to the New York Times.

“Both men have also twisted themselves into knots to distance themselves from previous positions, so that voters can no longer believe anything they say. Last week, both insisted that they would save Medicare by pumping a huge amount of money into the program, a bizarre turnaround for supposed fiscal conservatives out to rein in federal spending.

“The likelihood that they would stand by that irresponsible pledge after the election is close to zero. And the likelihood that they would be better able than Democrats to preserve Medicare for the future (through a risky voucher system that may not work well for many beneficiaries) is not much better.

  1. They would pump huge amounts of money into Medicare to save it? Since when have Republicans pumped huge amounts of money into anything but WAR ON THE CREDIT CARD?
I reread an article on Obama in a New York Times Magazine I saved from the 2008 campaign. It argued that Obama was a more fiscal conservative and more socially conservative than Republicans. When Obama won Conservative leaders spent the following week at the Virginia House where they devised their committment to undercut everything and not cooperate at all. Why? Obama’s election was a personal affront to them. A defiance of the American people toward their agenda.
I’ve read the Hunger Games. In the story Catniss and Peeta make one decision that is taken by the elites as a definace and the next two books of the trilogy provides the story.
Rrepublicans and their financers are petty and we are all going to pay for it with our livelyhood.

    • You are absolutely correct, Wanda. When judging Obama, one must consider that the sole agenda of the unloyal opposition was to defeat every and all proposal he made; to discredit him with constant attacks, true or not, to ensure he fails and sabatogue every movement he contemplates. And behind this basically treasonous behavior, are billions of dollars, maybe some from Putin; who knows?
So, when I defend him, it is in this context, a Party loyal to themselves, not our country. Makes decision making difficult, don’t you think?

      • It makes me sad to think that we could have been on our way to empoying many millions of Americans (of all races) if the right was not just trying to unemploy just one black man.

  2. What Obamacare does is streamline Medicare Part C. Also Medicare Part D to some extent.

  3. As I just posted on my health list serve, Ryan’s voucher plan must have been conceived in a brainstorming doldrum between Dr. Gonzo and Hunter Thompson while crashing from an excess of reds, whites and blues obtained from a wandering street apothecary while searching for the Tea Party’s premier showing of it’s pro-life double feature, Rosemary’s Baby and Apocalypse Now. Fast forward two weeks and play make believe–since that’s what Ryan is doing. Then I shall be on Medicare and the $6,500 voucher wouldn’t have covered the $8,500 bill for one E.R. visit of the three I’ve had over the last month. The only real money in his budget is for bullets, bombs and billionaire back scratching.

And lets bring Sheldon Adelson in as some kind of ambassador. He’s got Mo Green’s markers; after all Adelson is big in the gambling racket in Macao, where the yearly take is over 35 billion vs Vegas’ 5 to 6 billion. I’ll bet nobody in the USA has any idea how much money he has and how much he is pouring to the GOP. What a country!
