Truckee Police Force now includes patrol on stand up paddleboards. Talk about a great job! Right now, just Donner Lake but may be coming to Lake Tahoe next summer.

Looking at this picture reminds me of the mountain bikes NCPD purchased a couple of years ago…anybody seen them being used lately??
I think the hills were the reason for their demise.
What is the status of that 3 wheeled electric thingy they were trying out? I heard it costs around $13K and they were getting a grant for it.
I think I saw that thing down at the New Republic, they’d stripped off the base and wheels and were using the motor to grind hops. Talk about re-purposing!
Thus the name “mountain” bikes. As I recall, these were pretty high end bikes. If they are not going to use them maybe they should auction them off and put them toward a “segway” or some other piece of needed equipment that won’t gather dust.
Does the SUP have a flashing blue strobe light on it like a patrol car or boat? Just wondering…;-)
Would an undercover version of the SUP be a…2-man submarine? Sorry, I couldn’t resist. OK, enough wine for tonight….
It’s a fact… Tahoe is way cool!
Your tax dollars at “work”.

Now if this was a righty blog, there’d be a bunch of unreadable charts and graphs to prove each of your posts. And if I was still knocking down shots of Scotch or Stoly, my charts would confuse even Hunter Thompson and Dr. Gonzo’s love, Savage Lucy.
Being a relatively regular lake kayaker on Donner Lake I actually see the need for this. With simultaneous increased paddle board and personal watercraft use conflicts have been increasing and an effort to educate the public about safety and etiquette is needed. Could save a few lives and increase the capacity of the Lake to take new users.
The righty blog chart Ed would see would be $$ cost on the y axis versus lives saved and economic value of the increased users on the x axis.
The case likely made would be that early investment in lives saved and increased economic value of users would be better spent on RV parking.
Excellent beginning, Steve, but I wonder if their calculations include those with incomes below $100,000, the absolute minimum to be considered worthy and successful, regardless of the quality of one’s art produced, lives saved as an EMT, inspiration spread through uplifting prose or poetry, or dedication to any number of vocational objectives free of a MSRP.
One thing I know for sure: I’ve got a lot more answers after polishing off half a bottle of tequilla gold!!!
Hey Ed, I think I still owe you a book? Have you read Mecheam’s biography of Andrew Jackson (American Lion) yet?
Hope they use boards that are manufactured in the US rather than in China. I refuse to buy the ones that are supposed to be “local” but are manufactured in China on general principles.
Next time one of these young fit paddlers pass me on the left while I am kayaking into the afternoon wind I will ask them!
I haven’t read that book, Steve, and I must admit I woefully behind in reading on Andrew Jackson. And, I’m sorry to say, I just had te gal that helps me, return a bunch of duplicate books I had ordered, including, A Well Regulated Milita. But though I must have a hundred books to read, I’m about to order more and think that book is still available for a mere four or five bucks. Can’t beat the prices and when I finish one book, I feel like I’m at Barnes and Noble, browsing for another. After my close call and hospitlation with a nasty bout of pneumonia, reading is my stimuli.
Ed, don’t worry about A Well Regulated Militia; I acquired a copy of it from my cousin while I was in Wisconsin this summer. I’m not keeping books anymore if the are available electronically-part of my effort to reduce my footprint–so I’ll let you know when I am coming down next and just bring you a box of books i’ve recently read and you can decide what you want. I believe in book recycling!
Steve, just hit back space and lost my reply. So, sure, my interests cover a wide range of non-fiction. Just let me know, as soon as I’ve recovered from this bout of pneumonia, I’ll be going to Boston–Dana Farber Cancer Center and Mass General for their opinions on this pesky leukemia. I’ve decided to start charging doctors and hospitals to see me since I’m repeatedly told what an interesting case I am. I was sent to Sutter’s neurologist specialist for, I guess, cluster headaches, that would bring me to my knees. The doc looked at my file, poked me a few places, asked a few questions, stared silently at my file on the desk, then threw his hands in the air, exclaiming, “I don’t know what’s wrong. You’re too complicated for me. There”s a clinic in Chicago . . .”
Just the same, I got the bill for $555.00 for 45 minutes.
Cheers
