Aaron Klein running for re-election at Sierra College for a third term

You can red about it (at least from his perspective) here. Aaron (who is gung-ho for free-market capitalism) does not mention this, but Sierra College (like most public “troughs”) offers good health benefits for a growing family compared to his private startup. One day, I hope he will acknowledge the benefits of public sector employment. It comes with maturity.

  1. So what are the defined perks/benefit for this elected official???

Great little Perspective and eye opening, Jeff.

  2. Sure. The benefits for Trustees including Aaron Klein (who are elected to four-year terms) are excellent: compensation, health, life and welfare benefits. And health benefits for RETIRED board members too! (see details below). And NO term limits!

In short, the Trustees benefit from the same bloated public pension system that many of them including Aaron criticize, at least for others (that is, talking out of both sides of your mouth).

    Here you go:

“Members of the Board may elect to receive such health, life and welfare benefits as are extended to District MANAGEMENT employees.”

And here’s the kicker (the benefit for a three-term “elected” such as Aaron) is health insurance for RETIRED Board members too at the management level! (It’s an interesting concept, being “elected” a manager: most businesses have a more rigorous procedure to elevate managers). So at his young age, Aaron will qualify for that when he is elected to a third term.

“The District shall pay health insurance premiums for retired Board members who have a total of 12 or MORE YEARS in accordance with the following:
    1. Board members who were in office after January 1, 1981, and who are now receiving the benefit, will continue to receive the benefit to the same extent and upon the same terms that existed on January 1, 1994.
    2. Board members who are currently serving and whose first term began before January 1, 1995 shall receive the same health benefit that the District extends to management employees at the time the Board member leaves service.

There’s also some compensation, besides health, life and welfare benefits. AND it can be increased 5 percent annually! Not bad.

There are no term limits for Trustees either!

Plus, there is a code of ethics and one governing political activity.

In my opinion, Aaron as a Trustee of a college should keep his strong political opinions to himself. I don’t see any other Trustee being so outspoken politically.

Aaron is a vestige of the John Doolittle “political machine,” hoping to use his college Trustee position as a jumping board to higher office.

I also think a College Trustee should have a college degree.

    • Jeff,

This one of your best posts and response. This needs to be re-posted every day for the next nine months ;)

  3. Seems time to redo the minimum requirements of the Trustee position. Thanks for the insight. Sure hope this stirs the local pot, in this regard.
