“Of the 530 American athletes gearing up for the opening ceremony Friday, a whopping 128 of them call California home. In fact, Californians make up the entirety of the badminton team, and 24 of the 26 water polo players. And 71 one of them have Bay Area ties.
“‘The Bay Area is the perfect combination of climate and outdoor space,’ Heather Petri, a water polo player from Orinda, told Mercury News. ‘It invigorates you to try sports. People flock here because of the opportunities.

I thought everyone was leaving California?
Only to spend time in London competing in the 2012 Olympics.
Nevada County Voices condenses the headline for this article to “Cal makes up most U.S. Olympic team,” so I had to check twice that Mr. Pelline wasn’t exaggerating the contributions of the Golden Bears. Phew…relief!
California is the best state in the union by far. Nothing wrong with other states but California has the Sierra, is the largest agriculture state, 1,000 miles of coast line, deserts, high country, incredible weather, oldest living redwoods in the world, and the list can go on.
Including the 9th ranked economy in the world.
