Middle age is complicated. I was gearing up to go to my 35th high school reunion from Saratoga High School this weekend (and telling my classmates I would go), but my nephew Broughan and his fiancé, Calynn, decided to get married on the same day.
So their wedding trumped the high school reunion. Sorry about that. See you at #40.
And for a Cal graduate it’s a tough pill to swallow, too, because he’s marrying a “Stanford” — as in Calynn Stanford of our fine county.
We love them both and are so proud. Calynn has been on a track-and-field scholarship at Cal Poly, and Broughan is starting in football again this season for San Francisco City College.
They likely will wind up settling wherever Broughan gets a scholarship to finish playing college football in Division I. (Broughan’s brother plays quarterback at Iowa State).
It’s an exciting adventure for Broughan and Calynn, and we look forward to their happy day. I wish they would hang around, but they have mountains to climb.

Is the Stanford of the Leland Stanford type, or the Sally Stanford type?
Having grown up on the Peninsula and being a diehard Stanford Indians fan, I’m not much interested in hearing about Cal problems.
Some people think stealing an axe is OK. Others don’t.
Go Bears, Mustangs, and Gators!
