Nevada City to consider remodel of Alpha Building on July 31

An Architectural Review Committee meeting is planned on July 31 at Nevada City Hall to consider plans to remodel the Alpha Building, proposed to become the Alpha Building Marketplace and Community Collaborative.

Let’s get on with it! The building could use a refresh. Details are here:

Architectural review application to remodel the existing building, known as the Alpha Building, located at 210 Broad Street in downtown Nevada City.

The Alpha Building footprint contains 8,160 square feet. The main component of the project is to add three windows and a new doorway/entrance on the eastern elevation (Union Street) and onto Calanan Park, a city-owned park.

The application also proposes replacement of all existing windows and doorways on all elevations of the building with matching materials (wood windows on Broad Street, aluminum windows on Union and Commercial Streets). Two existing storefront doors also will be replaced.

Color change of building (light green body, off-white trim, dark brown and beige accents).

The property owner/applicant is BT Alpha LLC (Gary and Patti Tintle, Ken and Kay Baker).

From AppleCenter.org:

The Alpha Building Marketplace and Community Collaborative is envisioned as a people’s marketplace and community center serving both local residents and travelers. Located in the historic Alpha Building at the foot of Broad Street, it is the gateway to Nevada City’s historical downtown shopping district.

We envision the Marketplace showcasing
- local and regional farmers
- artisan producers
- independently owned and operated local businesses
- non-profit public benefit organizations
