“Oh no, Mr. Bill:” Did hard-right commentator George Rebane get promoted at The Union? Here’s what a screen grab of the The Union looks like this morning. Rebane’s column is featured prominently on top, just below articles on the Robbers Fire and the Fed Ex driver rescuing a woman from a fiery crash.
Rebane’s article is labeled “Pelosi Principle Validated,” though it is tucked safely behind a “paywall.” Could George already have “co-oped” the new publisher over finger sandwiches and tea, or is it just a Web programming error? Any column — even the former publisher’s — does not belong at the top of the page in the “news” section. It lends itself to a “po-dunk” look, at least journalistically. (Click for larger image).

Can’t read the Union anymore. Leaning so far right it fell down. Used to be a good paper.
Jeff and others, have you contacted the Publisher to ask them why it’s there? I will…
Send him an email!
Was going to resubscribe, but now have changed my mind.
Even if i wanted to read The Union I find it almost impossible to actually enter my information and pay for an article. I sign in and it accepts my sign in and tells me I am signed in. Then I enter my credit card and it tells me I must sign in. Then I sign out and sign in again, to try to reset the system and it does the same thing. The same glitch has been in the system for months. They won’t even take my money when I offer it. I use other pay wall services and the system works fine…the NYT is a perfect example. It never forgets who I am, what my credit card number is, and even reminds me if I am coming up on an expiration date.
Well, it looks like someone at The Union has since wised up and bounced Rebane’s column off the “news” page. LOL!
I haven’t been able to do a successful payment transaction with the Union yet. I’ve tried a single $1 day pass several times, but the process always blows up with a “FastCGI” internal error. I reported this a couple of times, but no one seems able to fix it.
Absolutely classic.
Still not going to buy it, still not going to read it. Not even good kindling.
NYT crossword puzzle format is its draw for me. And if they bring back Gene Lyons.
They apparently swapped him out (Rebane) for RLCrabb.’s cartoon.
Just so you all know, Doug LaMalfa (the favorite to be our next Congressman) comments on Russ Steele’s blog. “Let the buyer beware.” LOL!
