“Amazing what four days off, a 33-53 opponent, the comforts of home, a foggy night in the 50s and a pair of orange shoes can do for a struggling team,” as the S.F. Chronicle is reporting this morning.
“The Giants quickly put a 1-5 trip through America’s Sweat Belt behind them Friday night when they rode a gargantuan Buster Posey home run, a seismic home-plate collision and shutdown pitching by Madison Bumgarner to a 5-1 victory over the Astros.
‘”We’re going to fight to get into a situation to get into the playoffs no matter what,’ Pablo Sandoval said. “We’re going to play hard.”

I’m looking forward to the second half of the season, hoping that the Giants’ players performance in the All-Star game (and last night) will be a catalyst going forward! A classic Giants-Dodgers rivalry for the playoffs!

As it stands right now, the success of the Giants making it to the playoffs hinges on whether Tim Lincecum can get out of the “funk” he is in. If he doesn’t start improving quick, (as in tonight’s game), He as well as the teams success might be in jeopardy.
Nice…thanks!
Hey, and for a brief few days the Cubs are no longer the worst team in baseball!
Congrats!
Timmy had 10 strikeouts and lasted until the 8th against Houston tonight, 2-0 Giants. By the bottom of the 9th, it was 2-2. Giants win it in a walk-off, 3-2 in the bottom of the 12th. This is Major League Baseball.
Lincecum was fantastic…great game….and how about that steal of home in the SD-LA game…..
Why does Bochy always take out a pitcher that is doing good and put someone else in to blow it, Casilla. Tim could of completed the game last night he still had it, he needed it.
Why doesnt Romo get more innings, the guy is a beast. 26.2 innings and 2 ER’s. He should be the primary saver with Wilson out and maybe even when he is back. He should be a 2 inning guy if not more.
There are probably a dozen games that Bochy blew buy taking out a pitcher that was doing good with someone cold that gave up a couple runs and lost the game.
Well I dunno Dave, Bochy put Romo in at just the right time this afternoon and the bullpen definitely won today’s final ballgame again the Houston Astros, 3-2. And it looks like the Dodgers are about to lose to the Padres which will put the Giants in first place by 2 games.
Sweeping the Astros!…pretty sweet way to start up after the All Star break. Unfortunately the Giants now head back to the land of blood, sweat, and tears (emphasis on the sweat), so we’ll see if they can suck it up and play good baseball in 90% humidity. Pretty tough when your home ballpark is in the worlds’ largest natural air conditioner.
And let’s not overlook the Oakland A’s, now 1/2 game behind Texas and California. The home teams are lookin’ pretty great!
Dave, I have asked myself that same exact question. As far a Lincecum or any starting pitcher, I think taking them out at the 7th is pretty much the norm (you have to factor in pitch count) As for the rotation; I think Bochy is trying to match up the relievers with the batting lineup. (Like Javier Lopez mostly just for lefties) I think Romo has what it takes to be a closer myself. He has been pitching awesome yet then again he only comes in for a batter or two. It boggles my mind when they pull him to bring in one of the guys they pulled up from Fresno. Lincecum did great however; he has to get better at away games. Let’s cross our fingers for his next start.
Sorry, I meant to say 8 innings as long as they are pitching well and their pitch count isn’t too high
