I received this press release from Sean Metroka of the Courts:

Judge McManus was appointed to the Superior Court of Nevada County in December 2005. She ran unopposed in June, 2008. Her term was due to expire in 2014.

The Court acknowledges Judge McManus’ commitment to the children and families of Nevada County. Prior to appointment to the bench, she was a Deputy District Attorney for 15 years, handling cases involving child sexual and physical abuse and child homicide. Additionally, she was a Deputy County Counsel for 5 years, representing Child Protective Services. Her dedication and exemplary work-ethic were a significant part of her long-standing service to the citizens of Nevada County.

When Judge McManus was forced to step down it was a great loss for the citizens of our county. Her personal struggle to regain her health continues. She was a great judge and an even better person.
Thank you for your very kind words. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the citizens of our community for the past 22 years, and our legal system for 26 years. Although I deeply regret having to leave the bench in this manner, I will find other ways to pursue my passion for helping the children and families of our county through volunteer efforts. Thank you again for the kindness and support. Respectfully, Julie A. McManus.
