This was a telling exchange on Facebook between local Libertarians and Tea Party members, stemming from the Tea Party’s float in the Fourth of July parade in Nevada City:
Gary Bryant (Libertarian)
I saw a vote GOP sign on your float for today’s parade. I was told by you all that you are not suppose to be non-partisan. I think your rule was broken…
Nevada County Tea Party
Gary the float belonged to someone else. They allowed us to use it. If it was there, someone missed it. But frankly I have to ask, are you planning on voting Democrat? Because the last time I looked we only had two viable choices on the ballot.
Gary Bryant
No! I’m voting for GARY JOHNSON… I witnessed it at the beginning of the parade on the float of yours. Our party takes votes from both sides. Battle of the liberals- Obama vs Romney (look at his record for Mass.).

The TP’s claims of non-partisanship are only skin deep: everyone wants to be non-partisan and independent free-thinkers, but our worldview and/or the propaganda we’ve been subjected to leaves us only one obvious choice. So the ‘claim’ is really just funny for anyone to make; it’s just even more funny to hear it from the TP.
Just watched a video of Romney ‘clarifying’ his position on SCOTUS health care ruling: “it’s a tax because SCOTUS said it’s a tax and they have the final decision and what they say goes.” Oh… so, you don’t want to overturn the health care law? Not that it’s a great law or anything but watching these highschool-class-president-candidates monkey around is great comedy. Keep it coming!
“If it was there someone missed it” …
It works the same with many groups on the left and the Green Party. A vast majority of people are stuck in the paradigm of only having a choice of the duopoly, same party different names. There are many differences but on the big issues they are the same party. This is why Libertarians and Greens agree on Civil Liberties, Use and Funding of Military, Bail Outs of Big Banks, Corporate Welfare, Same Sex Marriage, and War on Drugs. Both democrats and republicans will have their rhetoric about such issues but both of their actions result with the same laws. Gary Bryant and the Libertarian Party are correct and the TP has proven to be an arm of the republican party.
