  1. I predict a National League victory over the American League courtesy of the Giants!!

  2. I can’t remember how/why and for whom, the Yankees let Melky get away. Does anyone know? It’s either a fault or a good quality, but I’m loyal to the end and all my teams are in NY; but next come the local teams here.

  3. Speaking of baseball, this county is about to start “rockin’ baseball” with an All Stars extravaganza that may put one (or more!) of our teams on the road to Williamsport, PA.

Pioneer Park will be fat with baseball all next week, since we (the NCLL) are hosting the Majors this year. Bring your $20 dollar bills and stuff your pie-hole with the best grub this side of Roseville (BTW, the Nevada City Snack Shack at Pioneer Park was voted “Best Snack Shack in District 11″ last year, and that quality and excellent customer service continues). Here’s the link to District 11 so you know what that’s all about: http://www.leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=nevadacitybaseball

You will need to come watch a Nevada City All Stars game at Pioneer Park this year. The Major 11-12-year-olds have an awesome team. There were some excellent articles in The Union on Saturday about this by Walter Ford and I spoke to him Friday night about his coverage plans this coming week. Great stuff. I guess I might be prejudiced since my son Devin was on the front page of The Union’s sports section this Saturday (he’s the one waiting to bat and watching his teammate break up the play at home): http://www.theunion.com/article/20120630/SPORTS/120639985/1054&parentprofile=1054

My son is playing in the 9-10-year-old level down at Condon Park, which will also be rockin’ baseball this week. They have a very nice Snack Shack there as well…bring yer twenties and expect to have them completely expunged when you order ice cream, popcorn, burgers and dogs, soft drinks, candy, and a whole lot more.

Here are the brackets for the various levels:

If you like watching baseball, come watch these Nevada City Major League All Stars. I have been associated with the NCCL since 2007 and this is one of the best teams I have ever seen. There are a bunch of kids on this team who could become Triple-A players and then go to The Show, but one in particular will catch your attention. His name is Ty Trathen and he owns the yard at Pioneer Park. I watched him hit 3 home runs Friday night during batting practice–2 were towering giants and one was a line drive that took my breath away–in a time period of about 8 minutes. Truly extraordinary.

    • Hey Mike, does this area still have an American Legion team?

      • No Pete, the last level before high school ball is the Juniors. But Coach White at NU has a great program (though we wish they were more successful in recent years ;-) , and then it’s on to college ball.

I played Babe Ruth League, and I remember when American Legion was all the vogue. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

        M.

  4. The high school kids do play American Legion, here.

    • Good to know. Where are the games played?

      • I believe NU. They’ve had Legion for quite a while now. I don’t know who is coaching it this year. The past couple of years it’s been Jarrett Roenicke.

I’m not sure which level they are. I’ll ask Ted or one of the kids next time I see them.
