BofA ATM in Nevada City: Not reliable enough

At least twice in the short period since it’s been installed, the new Bank of America ATM in Nevada City has gone down, making it unable to accept our deposits.

The ATM was installed at the foot of Broad Street after BofA closed its branch.

This is a convenient location for us, so we don’t have to drive to BofA’s Brunswick Basin branch for our banking.

We have been forced to call BofA’s Brunswick branch manager and get them to fix it. It is a series of time-wasting phone calls.

Since BofA closed its “human” branch, you’d think they’d work harder to make sure the automated one worked. Their competition is Tri Counties Bank, which still has an office near town.

  1. The ATM provides reliable income for the National Hotel but I don’t think it should have been located in the bar.
Too bad the Alpha Bldg. is still vacant. An ATM in a market or more public place would be a better location.

  2. After doing business with BofA for over 20 years — including checking and savings accounts, several mortgages, credit cards, etc — we moved all our banking last year to a local credit union.

That’s the real solution to their … unreliable ATM.

  3. Never a problem at our “LOCAL” CREDIT UNION! I give free rides from B of A to whatever local bank you choose.

    • Question for anyone who might know: Do credit unions reciprocate with one another. I still have all income from VA, Strs, etc., direct deposit to CU in Orange Co. and maintain a Wells Fargo acct. in G.V. Have always wondered if local credit unions co-operate with each other–cashing sundry checks and such minor type of services. I could go in and ask, just have never done so.

      • We belong to Alliant Credit Union in Chicago and they reciprocate with local credit unions, Bank of the West and others. All fee free for deposits and withdrawals.

  4. I can use my ATM from Sierra Central for free at any other Credit Unions. Use your B of A- ATM at Chase (or any other major bank) and it costs a user fee. Check cashing is another universe all together.

  5. Thanks, Dave and Chip, for your feedback. I know of one CU, in the Brunswick Basin, by the pet store. Maybe that’s the only one in the area. But I avoid that area around noon time–reminds me of L.A., traffic wise.
