Romney clinches nomination but Trump steals the spotlight

“Mitt Romney and his allies opened a multi-pronged attack Tuesday on President Obama’s stewardship of taxpayer dollars, as Romney won the Texas primary and clinched the Republican presidential nomination,” as The Washington Post is reporting.

“Romney garnered at least 88 delegates in the Texas primary, bringing his total past the 1,144 delegates needed to win the nomination, according to an Associated Press count. But the candidate’s historic feat — he is the first Mormon to win a major party’s nomination — and his economic message were overshadowed by Donald Trump, who was helping Romney raise money at the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas.

“The provocative real estate magnate used the spotlight to promote his long-debunked contention that Obama was born in a foreign country. Romney aides admitted that this was an unhelpful distraction. At a moment when they wanted to put the president on the defensive, it was Romney who found himself in that position, leaving it to his aides to assert that he disagrees with Trump — while Obama’s aides said his refusal to publicly condemn his surrogate showed poor moral leadership.”

  1. How does it show poor leadership when a large percentage of the independents you need to pick up in the battleground states are too stupid to realize, or too racist to care, that it doesn’t matter where Obama was born? Obama’s mother was an American citizen which means Obama is a natural-born citizen according to the US Constitution. Period. End of discussion.

Romney isn’t dumb, the constant dog whistle of Obama’s “other-ness” will be a background refrain during this entire campaign. In the cracker-states that are still up for grabs, Romney needs the knuckle-draggers to come through for him at the ballot box. He’ll never admit it, but them’s the facts. Romney will let “other-ness” surrogates like Donald Chump do the heavy lifting for him, while he tries to remain all sparkly clean, just an honest working stiff trying to discuss the issues.

Our national political process is a deeply sick pathology. It is disgusting.

  2. It looks like Mittens Romney, like Newter Gingrich, et al. gets all jelly kneed and slavering toward old, rich white men. Which makes me wonder about their leadership and/or courage in the face of rich, tyrannical leaders the world over. After all, if mittens can’t tell Donnie Trump he’s full of sh#t what’s he gonna do with Kim Jong Un or Syria’s Assad? Weak, weak, weak…Hilary Clinton acts more bada$$ than Romney

  3. With Trump being as astute in business, I have to wonder how someone so “smart” can be so “stupid” as to keep up this birthers stuff….

  4. I’m not sure that any one really knows how astute in business he is. It is a matter of public record that Ivana got the ack country Greenwich, CT house–then valued at a measly $10 million, or so–when they divorced, but the Don, started with a grubstake of many millions, thanks to ole dad, and per his bankruptcies, was so leveraged, it’s hard to unravel his Byzantine financial dealings. His holdings, from the Taj (Gambling) in Atlantic City to the environmental monstrosity on the northern coast of Scotland where he recently demanded of the local Scots they tear down those wind turbines because they harmed the view from his latest resort, leaves one with impressions of desperation, or the true arrogance of the multi-billionaire he claims to be. I’ll bet if you cross Steve Winn in Vegas would be a bad move, just as in the ’70s when the Chicago Outfit ruled the roost.
    be a bad move

  5. (Don’t know why Hal does that) but the Don’s biggest source of cash flow is probably that TV show, if it is still on. I just wonder who his Tony Spliottro character is–the guy Joe Pesci portrayed in Casino.
