My son collected the shells from the “21 gun salute” in the parking lot and studied them closely. He brings them home every year.
Afterward, we went to Ike’s Quarter Cafe for breakfast and discussed the meaning of Memorial Day together.
Now we’re back to work on our magazine — planning the summer issue — while our son is swimming and playing “disc golf” at his older cousins’ house. I hope you’re enjoying the day.

Very nice… Thanks to all that service, sacrifice and protect our County and the world, bless them and their families for all that they give.
God Bless Our Veterans! Just a little shout-out to my veteran little brother who is graduating from the police academy next week. Love you Rob…
Just now getting to yesterday’s mail. The best service the non-veteran public can do, IMO, is read the book, Vets Under Siege: How America Deceives and Dishonors Those Who Fight Our Battles. To be honest, I only read about 3/4 of it, because the story is all too painfully familiar. I’ve probably posted on this blog, that if I wrote another book, it would be titled, The Veteran is Always Wrong. I the April 20th Bee’s Editorial, Backlog in VA benefit claims is shameful; Oakland Office Needs Full Overhaul, reveals that Oakland–which includes those of us in Nevada Co.–has “the second-worst backlog of any of the nearly 60 regional claims offices across the country.”
The article cites am average waiting period of 333 days before reolution of a claim; I’m still waiting for a resolution for a claim submitted in 2007, with a number of follow-up submissions, all of which have been ignored.
