I received this press release from Tom Anderson’s campaign:
The Nevada County Bar Association has announced the results of its plebiscite poll, which finds Judge Tom Anderson to be the “Best Qualified” candidate standing for Nevada County Superior Court Judge, Seat 1.
“I am honored that Nevada County’s Bar members feel I’m the best qualified to run an impartial courtroom,” Judge Anderson stated in response to the results.
“I’ve worked hard,” he continued, “to establish a reputation of integrity, respect, effectiveness, and fidelity to the law. I will continue to do so. I feel honored to have the confidence and support of the Nevada County Bar Association members.”
Nevada County attorneys were offered the opportunity to rank candidates for judge as “Best Qualified” and “Least Qualified.” Judge Anderson earned the “Best Qualified” ranking from more than 90 percent of participating members.
Nevada County Bar Association Plebiscite Results:
Candidate — Best Qualified/Least Qualified
Judge Tom Anderson— 32/1
Candidate George Smyrnos— 3/28
Note: Not all ballots contained a response to each question; therefore the totals do not match up perfectly. In an effort to honor every vote, the NCBA did not discard any ballots for incompleteness.
BTW, I remain disappointed that the judicial candidates and Bar Association have not been more outspoken about keeping the County Courthouse in downtown Nevada City. There’s more to being a judge and attorney than upholding the law. In a small town, the position also calls for civic leadership.

The Union had a story on this, but it was so convoluted that you had to read it twice to see Anderson in a good light.
