MyNevadaCounty.com receives “A+” score for transparency

From the county’s Friday memo:

The Sunshine Review, a national nonprofit dedicated to government transparency, awarded our new public website www.MyNevadaCounty.com a perfect “A+” score for government transparency. This places Nevada County’s website as the only “A+” rated website across the 58 California Counties. The next two top CA county scores are “A-“ grades awarded to Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Nevada County is among only 103 “perfect score” government organizations of over 6,000 rated nationwide that have achieved this transparency level. More details here and here.

The Sunshine Review has established 10 subject areas that they believe every public organization should have on-line; budgets, meetings, elected officials, administrative officials, permits & zoning, audits, contracts, lobbying (legislative advocacy), public records, and local taxes.

On our new county website, we created the “Information” navigation wizard option on the front page that easily guides citizens through these 10 categories to the ultimate information source.

For the 2012 awards, Editors at Sunshine Review analyzed more than 6,000 government websites and graded each on a 10-point transparency checklist.

  1. I recently tried to find the names of the various folks in the DA’s office, and could not get below the top dog. Maybe that has changed?

  2. Too bad the our Sheriff has taken this rating to a new low with all of the fabrication that he has done in regards to the recent passing of the mmj ordinance.

Our BOS is no better considering that there have been two polls in the Union and both had the mmj rights issue winning @80% to @20% of people who did not want patients to have any rights (as per the vote of California voters in prop 215).

This decision will now cost our county MILLIONS of dollars that could be spent on schools or bringing in more companies / tourists to help our economy, but were going to send this money into a black hole where it will do no one any good!

Remember to write in “Jed Biagi” in you live in Ed Scofield’s district as we certainly do not need Ed representing a very narrow group while abandoning this counties tax payers and the people who medically need this medicine.

  3. What an honor for all of us here in Nevada County! Hard work and dedication is the secret of our success! Carry On!

  4. Congratulations Tom Naramore, County Information Systems Applications Manager, and all his team.
