“Hansen,” the 2-year-old thoroughbred champion, faces lots of headwind in the Kentucky Derby on Saturday: the 1 1/4 mile distance, more seasoned competition and his inconsistent behavior. (Plus, the favorite “Bodemeister” is named after award-winning West Coast Trainer Bob Baffert’s son).
But I’m going to stick with “Hansen” at long odds. Besides, I figure he might grow wings in the stretch: with his white color, he looks like the mythical Pegasus. If I had to make a more serious-faced bet, I’d go with “Gemologist.” Good luck to all!

Jeff:
If I was betting real money today, I would take a chance on Gemologist. He has the bloodlines of Man o’ War, Northern Dancer, Mr. Prospector, and other big winners. Looks good to me at 9-1. Guess my make-believe bet would e $5W, $10P and $20S.
With twenty horses in the field, it should be a classic cavalry charge finish. Let’s just hope that in the scramble for position they all make it around the track safely.
Jeff:
Gawd! So glad my “bet” was make believe. Hope yours was as well.
At least a California-trained horse won!

Hmmm…my brothers choice won…and he even had money on I’ll Have Another.
Awesome. He bet on California and “we” won! It’s going to be a good year for the Golden State!
