  1. When country singers weren’t worried about being politically correct.

    The yellow-haired lady came down to the tavern,
    Looked up the stranger there;
    He bought her a drink, he gave her some money
    he just didn’t seem to care.
    She followed him out as he saddled the stallion,
    and laughed as she grabbed at the bay;
    He shot her so quick they had no time to warn her,
    she never heard anyone say:

    The yellow-haired lady was buried at sunset
    The stranger went free, of course,
    ‘For you can’t hang a man for killing a woman
    Whose trying to steal your horse.

  2. Ben,
    I think you and I will be in the front row! Meanwhile, at the Western Washington Fairgrounds, in Puyallup, Wash., they’re going to be stomping their feet too! http://www.willienelson.com/event/all/september-7-2012

  3. Jeff,
    I have seen Willie at least a dozen times and he seems to be as good as ever. We went to the small stadium tour a couple years ago. Willie and Mellencamp were great but Dylan really needs to stop touring. I have seen him 3 times over the last decade and he gets worse everytime. Folk Dylan is my style and even up to Blood on the Tracks but after that it is hit or miss.

    Willie headlined the Telluride Bluegrass festival a little over a decade ago and I spent the entire cold wet day in front of the stage. The whole atmosphere made that show my favorite. I don’t know if you have been to Telluride but is a box canyon surrounded by 13,000 and 14,000′ peaks. It was pouring in town at sun down but just downvalley it was clearing and a huge ultra bright rainbow arched over the valley. I was singing along in the rain listening to Willie play guitar while seeing the rainbow, what a great moment. I had to work the 10pm to 4am shift that night at our restaurant and everyone was in great spirits after that set. Bluegrass was insane for town and merchants, thousands of people coming into a town the size of downtown Nevada City. We were one of the few affordable dining establishments and we were the only one that stayed open passed midnight the last few years we were in town.

    Here is a pretty good picture of what town looks like from about 3 miles down valley at society turn.

  4. Ben,
    Thanks. We lived in Denver, Colorado in the ’70s and visited Telluride often.

  5. A partial guest list for Willies Birthday bash was just released: Aunt Mary, Black Bart, Bobo Bush, Burnie, Dinkie Dow, Don Jay, Donna Juana, Greta, Herb, Indian Boy, Jane, Jay, Jim Jones, Joy Smoke, Juan Valdez, Juanita, Kali, Mary, Mary & Johnnie, Mary Ann, Mary Jane, Mary Weaver, Meggie. Sounds like it’s going to be a “smokin” good time!!!

  6. I was lucky enough to see Willie Nelson with Waylon Jennings and (I think) Kris Kristofferson back in 1977-78 at the San Jose Event Center. I was a really neat concert and I am hoping that I’ll be in the front row in September!
