MillerCoors acquires Fox Barrel Cider Co. in Colfax

“Bruce Nissen, of Colfax, had a dream of leaving the corporate world behind and creating a cider company. In 2004 he did just that, founding Fox Barrel Cider Company. In 2010, Fox Barrel became affiliated with the Crispin Cider Company,” the Auburn Journal is reporting.

“Nissen’s dreams have suddenly changed, as the MillerCoors LLC has acquired Crispin and Fox Barrel.

“He also had a passion for building a company in Colfax that would give back to its community and his employees. ‘My company is a sustainable business, and my goal is to keep Fox Barrel in Colfax,’ Nissen said.

“The production line at the plant located on South Auburn Street is going through extensive upgrades to the equipment that will help meet the demands of higher production to 5,500 bottles per day. New equipment, including a bottling machine and labeling machine, are being installed that is more efficient and that will help run the plant on a 24-hour production line, going from a manual labor to an automated production line. The upgrades will take about four weeks to be completed.”

Titanic sinking 100 years later

Editor’s note: The 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic is this weekend. We have been reading the various article of the disaster.

Working backwards from the shipwreck from the ocean floor, new animation provides the most accurate picture of how the ship sank.

While I found the video interesting, the narration from James Cameron is insensitive as to the human dimension. I wish it had been left out.

NBA must find new owners for the Kings

Editor’s note: I’m glad to see the media addressing the “elephant in the corner” when it comes to the Kings. I’ve been stating this for more than a year.

“The time has come for the Maloof family to sell all or part of their ownership in the Sacramento Kings. For the good of the league – and the good of a city and region that have been devoted supporters of professional basketball ever since the Kings first arrived – NBA owners must use their leverage to make this happen,” the Sacramento Bee writes in an editorial.

“As has been increasingly clear, the Maloofs lack the means and the will – or both – to pay for their share of a new sports and entertainment complex in Sacramento, even under terms that many would judge to be extremely favorable to them. Their financial status makes it difficult for them to field a competitive team, which means a franchise owned by the Maloofs will continue to drag down and distract the NBA, regardless of whether the team is in Anaheim, Seattle or another city.

“This isn’t personal about the Maloofs. During their ownership, the Kings became one of the most exciting teams in the NBA, beloved nationwide. The Maloof family deserves credit for those glory years, and if it were in a better financial situation, we’d like to think the family would still be fielding competitive teams and serving as reliable partners in siting and building a new arena.”
